OIl pressure sending units routinely fail. However on an 03, it's just a switch, so it's basically an idiot light. The computer moves the needle around a little to fake you out. Only way to know the actual pressure is with a test gauge. Rubicons might have a slightly larger turning circle...

Time for a rebuild or reman.

Swap the ASD relay if you haven't already. Inspect your wiring for chafing, especially over the dipstick and behind the valve cover. The split loom on these just crumbles leaving the wires exposed.

Somebody replaced a bolt, but it has the flanged head, so not the issue.

Yes. Mopar O2s are NTK Fuel modules/pumps - Bosch Belt tensioner - Litens Those are the ones that pop to mind.

Bosch made the MOPAR ones. They also made the OEM one in my YJ. It went 275K or so before it was not able to keep up with WOT flow.

I just bought a spare Bosch one from RA to keep on the shelf. 275K on the original so far... I'd keep it if the gauge was still working OK. You can always just replace the pump in it.

For 60 bucks, this is great for raising and lowering tanks.

I have a US motor works pump in the YJ, no issues so far.

PCM. That's what my 06 would do when it went. If going fast enough, it would restart itself with the MT.

The FSM available under Resources has the procedure to put it together with the plunger in the correct position.

There's no source for parts except used as far as I know. There's no breakdown because Jeep just replaced the whole unit and didn't repair them.

Probably the clutch safety switch. It's been recalled.

Possible plugged catalytic converter. Can't remember if 97s have an external fuel filter under the Jeep like a YJ or not that could be plugged.

Most auto parts stores will loan you the compression test kit for free. You just have to pay for it up front and then they refund your money when you bring it back.

06 PCM is garbage, but it sounds like you have a wiring problem. There's no reason the the hood ground to be carrying current when cranking.
