SOLD 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport - 39k miles Original Owner

In the Spring of 2000 my wife convinced me to quit looking at used Jeeps and just buy a new one and modify it to meet our goals. We bought this TJ Sport new in Dallas and it’s been a great vehicle in the 21 years ever since. From day one the Jeep’s enjoyed parking out of the weather inside my...

    More power

Gearing--definitely puts the 4.0L/5-spd back in useable power range with tire upsize--especially on the highway. I also like the benefit of better crawl ratio on rough trails and engine braking in mountainous terrain.

    No more 35x12.5x15 MTR?

We had impressive performance out of 35x15 MTRs on our two TJs. Durable sidewalls have been critical when traveling the Rocky Mountain trails that lead to our favorite historic sights. Unfortunately, when we were looking to replace them just over two years ago it was already getting hard to...

21 Year Old TJ Looks Better Than New

Very nice looking rig! Always great to see folks put the effort into getting it done right. Ready to be driven another 20+ years!

Looks like I need a new front driveshaft

Go with Tom Woods. The DS is not something to save a few $$ on. This appears to be the costly option up front but well worth it down the road.

    35x12.5x15 on 15x8 or 15x10?

The 15x8s expose less sidewall on rocky trails as well.

    35x12.5x15 on 15x8 or 15x10?

I've run both and although 15x10 may ride slightly better, 15x8 keeps the beads in place best at lower pressures.

STICKY What should I look for when buying a used Wrangler TJ?

I have seen much better in Texas but since we sold our farm earlier this year and moved closer to family in Utah rusted bodies and frames are typical. I cringe when I think of the salt on the roads here and am not looking forward to the upcoming winter here. I'd keep looking for something from...

Illinois For Sale 2005 TJ X Impact Orange Low Miles

My wife calls this bright orange "a fun color" vs. the plain colors most of our Jeeps have been over the years. It certainly looks good on this TJ.

Using an additive to fix a rear main seal leak

I also agree with what @Jerry Bransford said early in this thread. Personally am not a fan of these types of additives as they typically add to other challenges later in the vehicle's life.

Colorado My Jeep was stolen in Denver this morning

I trust the culprit was at least caught so that you get a little justice/satisfaction out of this unfortunate event. Hope you are able to enjoy some great jeepin' again in the near future!

    Back to Stock Spring Mounts

Great idea! I wish I'd seen your suggestion when I needed a set for my TJ Sport years ago. Although it may have been hard to find any hockey pucks in rural Texas at the time!

Colorado My Jeep was stolen in Denver this morning

Sorry to hear this. Will watch out for any hints of those bad actors in my area...parting out, etc. This trend is frustrating for all of us.

Trying to Provide Guidance to JL Owner

We too have an EcoDiesel and see no reason to re-gear...plenty of extra torque at low rpm's. However friends with the v6 and turbo 4 all have changed to lower gears or plan to do so.

Trying to Provide Guidance to JL Owner

I assume they have the 8-spd automatic? If so they will likely experience a lot of gear hunting when driving on road with 37s. They'll seldom even see 8th gear unless they have the ecodiesel. Like others have recommended, re-gearing is the only good option IMHO.

A lesson learned—keep it light and nimble!

Glad you found it before it was exposed to the challenges of the VA weather/roads. I moved from Texas to Utah this past fall and have kept my two TJs in the shop thru the winter to avoid the winter road salt here. Yours looks like a great project!
