Sourcing a frame in the Northeast US?

I've been reading about that, and to my understanding there seem to be only 3 differences - 1: the bolt hole sizes are different (M12 vs 1/2"-13 on older), 2: The automatic transfer case skidplates are different (Does not affect manual transmissions for either the NV3550 or AX15) 3: The...

Sourcing a frame in the Northeast US?

Thanks, but the point of the post was to see if there was an "easier" way than doing the patching using caps. Good call, I did join a bunch of groups a year ago - though I doubt that a good frame would be sitting in a backyard. That said, even if it needed caps, it's probably in better shape...

Sourcing a frame in the Northeast US?

I've got a good deal of frame rot, among other things that I need for my TJ. Anyone know of a good place to find larger ticket items like frames in the Northeast? Its bad enough where a full frame might be easier than fixing the current one, but I'm not willing to shell $4k out for a new frame...

Steering wheel shakes when hitting bumps

Is the front track bar hole at the frame side (upper side) wallowed out? It might cause play. Also, don't discount bad sway bar links and/or warped rotors. They can add a little bit of the feeling of death wobble if the wheels aren't actually moving back and forth. Source: just replaced the...

How to swap a high amp Dodge Durango alternator into your Jeep Wrangler TJ

I just went to a junkyard and pulled an 04 Durango Alternator. I have a 98 TJ. I didn't see a page in this thread, and realized that the 97/98 TJs have a different connection than the 99-06 TJs. The 99-00 TJs might also have a different mounting bracket than the 01-06 TJs, which is what I am...

Pulled Durango Alternator - Mounting doesn't match

I pulled a 2004 durango 4.7L alternator based on the research that has been posted, and tried to use it for my 98 TJ. Turns out, the mounting is completely different. Even if I could mount it, which I can't, the pulley doesn't line up right with the belt. Similarly, the connector is completely...

Which donor vehicle alternators will work in a TJ?

My alternator pulley is toast, and I was going to head to the U-Pull-It this weekend to grab another (since it's cheaper to do that then get a new pulley). Anybody have a list of donor alternators that would work with the TJ (Specifically for a 1998)? I don't mind cutting an unused bracket off...

    Coolant System Flush with Thermocure

Just a note before I address previous posts: The thermocure shown in my first link is a rust-related product, not calcium. Would rust only become a concern if there was calcium buildup as well (i.e. there'd have to be calcium to cause rust)? I'd assume an iron block with around 250k miles might...

    Coolant System Flush with Thermocure

I actually haven't looked at this yet to determine if there is any calcium buildup - the radiator was relatively new when I bought it though, so I'm not sure if this would be a true indicator if there wasn't some other buildup throughout the system as well.

    Coolant System Flush with Thermocure

Nothing's overheating at all - this is just a regular preemptive maintenance job. Since I've had it, the coolant is green, and its also pretty dirty (which could potentially be rust buildup). I've no idea if the PO used tap water vs. distilled at all, either. I'd rather clean the system (and...

    Coolant System Flush with Thermocure

I'm posting a step-by-step on how I plan to flush the system. Please advise if any of the steps may be incorrect - it looks like I'm posting steps that aren't defined in the "How-To", which is the only reason I'm starting a new thread. In the next few weeks I plan to do a coolant system flush...

Jeep Wrangler TJ Shock Bolt Hardware Bolt Sizes

PSA for others - As Jerry has pointed out in other threads I've read (and what is especially important to the rear upper bolts, IMO) - If you use anti-seize, you should back off the torque applied to the bolts by about 20% (i.e. if the FSM calls for a torque of 30 ft-lb, you should really use...

Wrangler TJ Fluid Capacities & Fluid Recommendations

I agree - I've seen enough wrong info on Quadratec and other sources to know better, although similar to the GL-5 statement on the transmissions, the FSM isn't always right either. Just figured I'd double check to make sure I wasn't missing something (especially if I ever wanted to get a...

Wrangler TJ Fluid Capacities & Fluid Recommendations

I see conflicting reports about the NP231 transfer case fluids - On extreme terrain, it shows a different transfer case fill level for the Manual Transmission vs. the Auto (Note: it calls out the transmissions separately, as well as the transfer case). That said, I thought the NP231 was common...

(NJ) Complete Rear Drum Kit w/ Backing Plate (Dana 35)

Recently upgraded my project TJ rear Dana 35 to disc brakes, and have no need for drums anymore. Drums, Brake Pads, and associated hardware (springs, etc) are all new (bought last year) - They have around 100 miles maximum on them. Included are the 2 backing plates, 2 new drums, and 2 pads...

    Mr. Murphy strikes again

I have a lube locker (reuseable) on my Dana 30 and a Fel-Pro gasket (non-reuseable) on my Dana 35. I have no leaks. The Fel-Pro (purchased from Autozone/Advance or wherever) is a rubberized gasket, not paper or felt. It does conform to the irregularities of the surfaces because the gasket is pushed...

Wanted: Stock Control Arms w/ Good Bushings

I didn't necessarily mean the actual stock arms, but OEM style (maybe someone replaced then decided to upgrade or whatnot). I know its about $200 for new arms @ RockAuto or whatnot, but I figured I'd see if anyone had a set laying around for cheap so I can put that money towards other things.

Wanted: Stock Control Arms w/ Good Bushings

Looking for some of the stock arms to replace my worn ones. Seeing if anybody wants to get rid of their old set for cheap if they upgraded theirs to a JJ style or whatnot. I'm located in Northern NJ near NYC, but on weekends I can travel wherever (Usually Central NJ to work on the rig at my...
