Gear pattern check - Dana 35 with 4.10 gears

I'm in the process of re-gearing my Dana 35 with a Revolution 4.10 ring and pinion set. Right now I'm at 0.007" backlash with the carrier bearing caps on finger tight. The rotating torque of the pinion is 14 inch pounds without a crush sleeve installed. The carrier bearing are pressed on, but...

    Dana 35 shim placement options?

I'm beginning to rebuild an extra Dana 35 that I had, and was just confirming the placement of pinion shims and also carrier shims. On everything I've read and watched, on a Dana 35 the shims were outboard to the carrier bearings. But according to the Dana Spicer catalog (at least on version...

Used oil analysis of my 97 4-cylinder with 185,000 miles

Pulled a sample at the last oil change because why not? We bought the TJ about 2 years ago with 172,000 on the odometer and no real idea of previous history or maintenance. Was losing a little bit of coolant, probably to worm clamps on the radiator hoses, but good to know it isn't ending up in...

    Power Steering Reservoir?

My 1997 TJ (4 cylinder) reservoir has cracked. Was repaired with bondo or something once before. Doesn't seem like the part is readily available, any advice on a generic one that fits?

Oil pressure switch leak (Part number for right angle off block?)

Thank you, I appreciate the reply and the link. But that was the parts catalog I was referring to in my first post. Unless I am missing it, I didn't see anything in the engine section, nor is there anything on the page with the sensor. Greg

Oil pressure switch leak (Part number for right angle off block?)

I have a 97 4 cylinder that is leaking oil from the pressure switch. Confirmed that it isn't leaking down from valve cover. I have a new Mopar pressure switch, but is it ever necessary to replace the right angle connector that comes out of the block? I couldn't find a part number in the parts...

    Parking brake cables, location?

Just worked this out myself the other weekend while completing an axle switch. Had to walk down the street and take a picture of a neighbor's TJ to confirm, but the cable goes to the rear of the sway bar end links.

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

Thanks for looking SvtLdr and mrblaine. FWIW, that was with the crosspin and c clip in place, just like it would be if it were sealed up and ready to go. I guess the ultimate test will be to fill the diff with gear oil and start driving and see if there is a leak anywhere. Need to finish up a...

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

And for comparison, I have another Dana 35 here with what I think is an OEM seal and that sits even deeper than where I am with my replacement. So good to go?

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

This is how the axle sits when it is installed.

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

That chamfer is where I set the seal to on the other side, then went back and questioned if the other was too deep

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

ok, maybe I'll just get another one and set it flush to the axle face. The seal that I took out was a different style, it had a lip that went over the face of the axle tube, which sets the depth of the seal. All the seals that I can see now don't seem to be made like that. Thanks

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

Anyone from the week day crowd know how this should be setup? Thanks!

Replacing axle seal and bearing on Dana 35—what is the proper seal depth?

What is the proper depth for the axle seal? FSM doesn't seem to specify if it is supposed to be flush with the face of the axle tube, or seated as far as it can go in? I drove this one in without much effort and the bearing spins fine. Just wondering if this is an issue or not. Seal and...

Why is my front axle doing this? Is it the spider gears?

I was more concerned with the noise and the shaking of the axle (like at about the 40 sec mark in the video). I realize that this vehicle isn't intended to be front wheel drive, but I also didn't want to tear anything up. But maybe this is normal? I wasn't expecting the other wheel to be...

Why is my front axle doing this? Is it the spider gears?

yes, which is why I had initially thought u-joints as well. Went ahead and replaced both sides with Spicer 5-760X u-joints. It almost seems like the spiders aren't engaging, if that is even possible. I had the cover off and it wasn't a disaster inside as far as I could tell

Why is my front axle doing this? Is it the spider gears?

U-joints on both sides are new, the noise is definitely coming out of the diff

Why is my front axle doing this? Is it the spider gears?

Been sorting the front and rear differentials out on this 97 4 cylinder. Front axle is stock Dana 30, no lockers. New gear oil and u-joints. Right now I am driving in 4Hi with the rear driveshaft off as I am sorting out the rear axle. So the front axle does this when the wheel is turned...
