Giving the head a smack was an excellent suggestion and that’s exactly what my friend did.

That worked! A friend came over and hammer released the other side first and then he smacked the head and then proceeded to hammer release the side splitting the c-clip.

Terrible video, but I get the idea! I should have just rented one, I just wanted to do the job with my smarts, albeit no vise.

I’m not sure what the “lugs” are, but if you mean the remainder of the cap, I was thinking I may be able to use a chisel to knock them in enough to possibly break the vacuum. I don’t have a welder.
