    97 TJ Speedo Healer Trouble

Just installed JB Conversions super short SYE on a 1997 Wrangler 4.0L 5 speed and now the speedometer does not work. This SYE replaces the gear drive speedometer sensor with a tone ring and variable speed sensor (VSS). I have tightened and re-tightened yoke nut to 200+ foot pounds so I don’t...

Savvy Lift and Suspension Cycling Question

I'm in the home stretch of my winter build and need someone to sanity check me on shock lengths. I installed a 4" Savvy short arm lift with Currie track bars and steering, and Currie bump stop kit. The axles have had weight on them for two weeks now. I pulled the rear springs today and cycled...

    33.5 x 12.5 MT/R replacement

I'm looking at those same tires and seeing $250 each, so you got a good deal. Where did you find them at that price?

New guy with another (possibly dumb) gearing / axle question

There's something to be said for over building, but a properly done dana 30 will hold up to pretty much anything you're going to throw at it on 35's. I could be mistaken, but I don't believe there's much difference in the 30 and front 44 housing strength wise, so if you put in good shafts you...

New guy with another (possibly dumb) gearing / axle question

I would figure roughly $4,500 in parts to get your current axles up to snuff (lockers, gears, front shafts, big brake kit). Then decide whether you want to build them yourself, or fork out another $2k to have the work done. I haven't priced out Currie axles recently, but I'd guess you're...

    Dana 30 e-locker question

Yep, you've got it right. Pop the end of the slip ring out of the groove and it will spin out easily. Nothing to worry about in disassembly except a couple of alignment pins (if I remember correctly). I set my ring gear on the wood stove for a while and put the carrier in the freezer. It will...

    Gear Pattern Check

Backed it off two thou and came up with this. Still no expert, but I think it looks pretty dang good!

    Gear Pattern Check

Moved the pinion in 3 thou, how about this?

    Gear Pattern Check

Thanks for going out of your way to comment! I think there's some room for improvement, but I'm happy to see it so close. It's been a fun learning process, will make some additional tweaks to see if it can be perfected a bit.

    Gear Pattern Check

Move the pinion in 3 thou, or shift the carrier into the pinion? I'm getting a better understanding of how the changes interact, just want to make sure I'm understanding suggestions correctly.

    Gear Pattern Check

That's why I asked 😂 Contact on the coast side has been high in all of my settings. Wasn't sure how important it was to try to balance, vs perfecting the drive side.

    Gear Pattern Check

Made some adjustments. How does this look? And probably a stupid question, but how important is the pattern on the coast side of the gear?

    Gear Pattern Check

No, all the same part of the ring gear. I'm going to pull the crush sleeve, clean everything up, and test again. I think I had too much paint and not enough drag, which may have resulted in a poor picture of what's actually taking place. All in all, pretty happy with how it's going. My first...

I'll give that all a try and report back with my results. Appreciate the the help. Will

    Gear Pattern Check

My pinion preload may be a smidge low at the moment since I'm using the old crush sleeve for setup (around 12 inch lbs). Could that potentially cause the issue you're seeing?

    Gear Pattern Check

No, all from the same setting. I was a little thrown by that as well, but this is also my first time doing this. Wasn't sure if that was normal, or if something is off. Best I can tell, everything is clean and square, and the carrier was tightened down while I was checking the pattern.

Bump for the morning crowd. @Blackjack and @hosejockey61 sorry to call you guys out, but I've seen you comment on some of these threads in the past. Would appreciate any insight you're willing to share. Will

    Gear Pattern Check

The rub mark in the bottom picture is from an early attempt where the pinion was set too deep. No contact currently.

    Gear Pattern Check

Hi - hoping someone here can critique a gear pattern for me. Figured it was easier to create a new thread than clutter up someone else's. This is my first attempt at this work, so hoping I'm at least in the ballpark. Dana 35, Eaton e-locker, 4.56 Revolution gears. Backlash is currently at .008.
