    Another doggie road trip question

Thanks for your replies on my previous post on this topic. This time, it's about the rear seat. I've installed a subwoofer under the rear seat, mounted to the floor. So I don't want to take the back seat out for my two dogs during a multi-day road trip. What I REALLY want, is a rear seat...

    Doggies and road trips

Hi all. Planning my first big road trip and taking my two dogs with me. Planning to have the top off as much as possible and I’m worried about my dog’s ears with all the road and wind noise. I’m looking at ear protection for them. Would love to hear your experiences with road tripping in your...

    Thoughts on service inspection findings

Thanks all. I'll watch some videos and see if I think I can do the work myself. It would certainly be my first time.

    Thoughts on service inspection findings

Will do. Thx. Already have the MT-90 in hand. Just waiting for the temps to not be so bitterly cold. I hate wrenching in sub-freezing temps.

    Thoughts on service inspection findings

Hi everyone. I took my 99TJ in for an inspection of the transmission and the transfer case. Shifting into 2nd and 3rd isn’t smooth and 4HI is loud at speed. They found the transfer case to be leaking between the two halves (topped off fluid) and the transmission to be making internal noise...

    Is my transmission okay?

If it has inferior fluid would replacing correct the issue or would the brass synchros be damaged and the problem persist?

    Is my transmission okay?

    No idea.

    Is my transmission okay?

Hi folks. 99 TJ 4.0 AX-15 trans. Bought the Jeep a bit ago and spent a bunch of time on the suspension. Now that is sorted and I’m curious if I have an issue with my transmission or if this is normal for jeeps. When shifting into 2nd and 3rd there is a bit of a bump like I’m hitting a gear...

    Front windshield hinge nut gone?

Lovely. I'm not sure that will do it, though. The hole is shallow enough that I can only get the screw in halfway before it meets resistance. Perhaps I'm hitting the rusted out threaded steel plate that is misaligned. I'll try moving it around and see if it will budge. Thanks!

    Front windshield hinge nut gone?

On the top front facing portion of the windshield hinge there is a lone torx screw. On both sides of my TJ's windshield the screw has nothing useful to screw into and keeps popping out, revealing the rust hole behind it. (see pic) I'm concerned about more water getting in, where it might go...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Ur looking at its good side. :) She doesn’t like me taking pictures of her bad side.

    The Usual Rear Shock Problems

There seem to be a bunch of varieties of liquid wrench. Any preference?

    The Usual Rear Shock Problems

I’ve been spraying with Pb blaster for days. It took me a whole day to do one front shock. And I mean 24 hours. Had to get up the next morning and get more metal cutting blades for my oscillation saw to finish removing a bolt. Ended up cutting the top of the shock shaft off with a reciprocating...

    The Usual Rear Shock Problems

My plans for tomorrow included replacing the rear shocks. I saw this thread and now I’m worried I’m going to make a mess of it. $150 to have a pro do it sounds like a good deal. But I’ll be disappointed in myself if I don’t get through it. Grrr.

What did you do to your TJ today?

Today I attempted much more than I succeeded in completing. I recently picked up a 99 TJ that needs a lot of work. I knew that and wanted to do the work. Cuz I’m an idiot. Today was steering. Pump, pulley, hoses, gear, pitman arm, drag link, steering stabilizer, and tie rod, all replaced...

    Unhappy power steering pump

It lasted about an hour. Then spewed fluid all over my garage floor. I gave the steering system an overhaul today. Replaced everything from the steering wheel linkage down. Pump, pulley, gear, hoses, pitman arm and nut, a HD drag link and tie rod, and steering stabilizer. They were all old and...

    Unhappy power steering pump

Noticed my 99 TJ started making a clunking sound. Traced it to me power steering pump. Plenty of fluid. How long do you think I have before total failure? (Attempting to attach video. Not sure that’s allowed.)

    Ignition key gremlins and HVAC

I just replaced mine switch for the same reason. Didn’t help. If I wiggle the key everything comes back on. Will probably replace the actuator and cylinder next just to take care of it. But want all new locks to match. Looking for a set I can buy all together.
