    My project from hell

Hello All, I want to send out a heartfelt good luck to all who helped me in gearing my rear diff. As a rookie this was the hardest mechanical challenge I ever had. I absorbed the useless barbs from the ones who slid out of the uterus with this inherrent knowledge of setting up gears, and really...

    Supporting Wrangler on cinder block

Im looking to make some rust repairs on frame rails. To get additional clearance I was thinking of placing a 3/4' board on a block (where the holes would not be visible) and putting the jack stands on the block. Does this seem to be a safe method to gain some extra clearance ? Thanks

    Setting up differential gears

Anyone (first timers) thinking about getting into the workings of a differential and dabbling in there, I would highly recommend reading / viewing the "billavista" getting the gears done site and viewing "hosejockey61" videos. Failure to become familiar with these sites (I can guarantee) will...

    Pinion depth measuring

I couldn't rent or aquire the expensive pinion depth tools so I made a primitive one of my own using cardboard a steel rod some thread and a magnet. This gave me a ballpark depth number. I added a .020 shim to the original .042 one and came out with this pattern. Now Im having trouble reducing...

    My regrets

Hello all, Recently I was accused of screwing up the forum system. There are those who came from the womb with knowledge of setting up a differential, unfortunately I was not one of them. These individuals have low tolerance for rookies who have to learn the hard way. I never knew that posting...

    Easy ring gear install

heat ring gear in toaster oven 375 deg. for 20 min. and place over dowelled carrier as per photos. Leave carrier overhanging the bench so bolts can be inserted without having to rotate unit. After all cools down I removed each bolt individually to apply red Loctite. You know the rest.

Easy spider gear install on open Dana 35

Hi all, I torqued the cover bolts to 30 ft lbs previously and had to open it up again. Hello all, I just replaced the rear drum brakes on my 1998 tJ. All went together well after many curse words. Jeep jacking

Thanks greatly for your response and I really understand your method but what scares me is that in my shop manual it states "do not jack up the Jeep from the axle tubes". i know you can get away with it using your method of lifting but I'm 73 and want to lift the whole thing up at one time...
