    General Exhaust Diagnostic Needed

I've had a 99 2.5L 4Cyl. (160K miles) since October. I've been trying to get it to run quieter. The whole engine shakes and vibrates more than I would expect, but I've never had this motor before. I have replaced the timing assembly (chain, dampers/guides, etc.) I put in new motor mounts. When I...

Liquid in electrical connector on starter

I put a starter in today. 99 wrangler TJ 2.5l 4 cyl. I managed to break the clip on the electrical connector. There was a lot of hard caked on grime on the connection (before I broke it.) in fact, I broke the red clip while chipping off the grime with a flat head screw driver. I put the new...

Oil pressure gauge low (new sending unit)

I recently replaced the oil sending unit after my “check guages” light came on and gauge reading was zero. Now the gauge reads about 5, and the check gauge light comes on about once every month or so for the duration of my drive. Oil level is good on the dip stick. What should I check next?

Is there a best cold air intake for a 99 2.5?

The Jeep is already straight piped (previous owner), and I might like some more HP

    Ignition issue

My 99, 2.5 L (160,000 miles) is cranking as many as 10+ times when I do a cold start (seems fine with warm start.) OReily’s did the quick check on the battery and it seems fine. What other diagnostics should I try?

    Motor Mount tight squeeze

Is there a trick to getting the motor mount to fit in the bracket? Can I hammer on it?

Motor mounts and where to jack the engine?

I recently purchased a 99, 2.5L 4Cyl. I’ve been reading the various motor Mount posts in the forums and watching YouTube videos. I’m unclear about where to lift/hold the engine up…? one video looked like it was placed in the front, just below the timing chain housing. Underneath, it looks like...

    Is it the clutch?

1999, 2.5L 4Cyl. I am able to move the gear shift through the first 4 gears while the engine is off with no clutch. This is bad, right?

Does a lift determine motor mount type?

I just got a somewhat maintenance neglected 99 2.5L that I have virtually no history on and I’ve been trying to get her healthy. It has a pretty good vibration. I’ve replaced the timing chain/gears/tensioner/damper/crank seal. Exhaust seems good. The vibration is still pretty intense. I’m...

Mystery hardware in oil pan on 99 TJ 2.5

What the heck is this? Is it supposed to be somewhere? How did it get in the front of the oil pan? This first pic is under the crank sprocket behind the timing cover. This pic is the item I retrieved.

99 TJ 2.5 oil pan gasket questions

This is the front of the oil pan under the timing chain (which I am changing.) I tried to get the torn portion of the gasket in the photo. A couple of questions: 1) Am I supposed to just cut off the old gasket without removing the oil pan? 2) my timing chain kit came with this cheap looking...

What is this behind the cam sprocket on my 99 TJ 2.5?

It looks like a fill plug. Is this something I should service while I have the cam sprocket off? Also, it looks like it might be loose. Does it need anything?

Removing timing gear on 99 TJ 2.5

How do I unbolt the timing gear without turning it in the process?

What is wrong in this 99 TJ 2.5 timing case?

I just pulled off this cover. The spring is loose and there is a strange piece of rubber loose (bottom right.) Where does the spring go? What is the loose rubber piece bottom right? Also, am I missing a tensioner that should mount to the casing cover?

Broke pull bolt in my harmonic balancer pulley on 1999 2.5

Welp! I could feel it wasn’t the right size, but I thought I’d replace the pulley if I could get the old one off! So, 2 questions: How do I get that bolt out? And What size bolt is needed? There are 3 inner holes and 3 outer holes. Can I try the outer holes?

Manual transmission problems on 99 TJ 4-cylinder

Just got a 99 2.5 TJ with 160,000 miles. I'm pretty sure the previous owner was pretty hard on it. Baja BF Goodrich tires, lots of mud, small lift, winch, previous owner is a younger driver. It's hard to get it into any gear. Reverse and First in particular. When I think I'm in reverse, I often...
