I recently replaced the oil sending unit after my “check guages” light came on and gauge reading was zero. Now the gauge reads about 5, and the check gauge light comes on about once every month or so for the duration of my drive. Oil level is good on the dip stick. What should I check next?

What the heck is this? Is it supposed to be somewhere? How did it get in the front of the oil pan? This first pic is under the crank sprocket behind the timing cover. This pic is the item I retrieved.

I just pulled off this cover. The spring is loose and there is a strange piece of rubber loose (bottom right.) Where does the spring go? What is the loose rubber piece bottom right? Also, am I missing a tensioner that should mount to the casing cover?
