Ok to install spacers between frame and skid plate on stock TJ?

Ok, I think I’ll go with stainless washers and fluid film for good measure unless anybody has a reason I should use something other than stainless. I’m driving an ‘05 with a flat plate, so I guess one heavy duty washer on each bolt should do the trick. Thank you all for your help with this!! I...

Ok to install spacers between frame and skid plate on stock TJ?

Awesome. Definitely will do this. I was just worried about pulling things out of line and causing vibration or something. I’m thinking 1/2” should be plenty for me - just enough to keep it cleaned out. Thank u guys for the input! Anybody know the diameter of those bolts off hand so I don’t have...

Ok to install spacers between frame and skid plate on stock TJ?

I am looking to get a little space between my frame and skid plate on my stock TJ just so I can keep it clean for rust prevention. Is that ok to do, or will it cause misalignment of the tranny? If it is ok, can anybody make some recommendations for how much space is ok, and what I should use...

Hadn’t even thought of that guys - just assumed a vacuum leak in a line. Thanks for the idea!

TJ sounds like a tea kettle when I let off the gas

Hi all. I’m having a tea kettle whistle. It was just a titch every once in a while, and occasionally my check engine light would come on for a week or so. This went on several months. Within the last few weeks, I have started to get it consistently at about 1 1/2 to 2 miles out from a cold start...

Adventures in death wobble with a totally stock TJ

I wasn’t suggesting that the weak stabilizer was the cause, just that it wasn’t strong enough to stop the unbalanced tire from throwing me into a wobble, that’s all.

Adventures in death wobble with a totally stock TJ

Fortunately, the guys at the shop I go to are awesome, and if that hadn’t worked out I would definitely come here for thoughts before going crazy replacing parts. I was just very surprised.... I always thought death wobble was for people with lifts/suspension mods.

Adventures in death wobble with a totally stock TJ

Using my ‘05 TJ, which is totally stock, as a daily driver I never expected to have to deal with death wobble. The last couple months I noticed a little wobble for a second after hitting a bump just right on occasion. Two weeks ago, I dropped her off at the shop for a fluid change out...

Anybody have any experience with Cosmoline?

my ‘05 is damn near rust free (amazing condition for Pa), and I’d like to keep her that way. I always check out what everybody is sayin about rust prevention, and I have yet to see anybody talking about cosmoline. Is anybody using it, and if so how how is it working for you? I have a few cans of...

Sayings that have stuck with you in life

My all time favorite - mostly said at work..... you can’t shine shit. Never heard looks like hammered dog shit before, but I love it - I think I’ll start using that one, too.

Well, that was not how I wanted my Friday evening to go... nor my first post to this forum.

That really sucks man. I thought I had a bad day bc some dude with a RAV4 and I backed into each other in the WalMart parking lot. I prob took about $300-400 worth of damage. I had my fold up rack on the hitch which took most of it, but the bottom corner of the rack crushed my lic plate holder...

Does your TJ have a name?

Full name is The Green Pearl, after The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean, and since the paint is green pearl. I just call her Pearl.

Your go to beer or liquor

I am mostly into the ciders at home (Angry Orchard, etc), but if I get to a good brewery, a stout or porter on nitro can’t be beat IMHO, my favorites being double chocolate milk stout and Sweet Baby Jesus chocolate pnut butter porter. As far as hard stuff, there is not really anything my 20s...

    What's everyone's speed at 3k RPM?

Just checked this morning. A bit over 80 (by speedo only) with my ‘05 sport in 6th. Running all stock with 3.73s.

    Holding back rust

Very good to know- I don’t have an impact, but I’ll get my mechanic to pop the loose with his next run I’m there. How bout tightening them again after - anybody know appropriate ft-lbs?

    Holding back rust

Those sound like a great idea. I have the holes at each end already, and that makes drainage much better. Don’t know why I didn’t think of holes between those bolts, too... I guess just focusing on whether I could even safely put spacers in before I thought any further.

    Holding back rust

Why not a socket with an extension? Are they likely to break off?

    Holding back rust

You probably did say it before, and I wasn’t around for it. Thanks! Anybody else have .02$ to contribute on skid plate spacing?

    Holding back rust

On the subject of the weak central frame where it meets the tranny skid plate..... I understand that plate is holding the tranny in place. I’m wondering if there is a way to put some spacers (even just 1/4” or so) between the frame and skid plate so I can keep this area clean and treated without...
