Could it be anything besides the heater core?

Thank you for the reply! There seems to be no shortage of videos on how to do this. Just stay organized and remember where shit goes and it’s doable. Lol. The horn stopped working (fuses are GTG) so I guess that and the AC evap like you mentioned will get done at the same time too.

Could it be anything besides the heater core?

For the sake starting another thread, looks like you guys already have the answer to this solution. Experiencing the same problem. Heater works really well but smells bad (like antifreeze) and I get a film on the inside of the window by the vent. Definitely a heater core and not something...

    4.56 gears with NSG370 and 33” tires?

4.56 all the way!! I ride my 370 With 33” tires and it does great. Started taking off in 2nd and driving is a lot more enjoyable. I had 3.73 gears when I bought it from the PO and it had no balls at all. Now I’m looking at going 37s so gearing will change for sure.

    Scratching behind the bell housing?

It’s been getting in the negatives here in Kansas and since then, my ride is acting up again. Now it makes this noise at first until it warms up. I’m thinking maybe it’s a pilot bearing that’s bad (probably what the scratching is) but not sure about this new sound. It shifts just fine and never...

    Scratching behind the bell housing?

Trying to revive this for some help. Here’s a short video I took. This vehicle has its problems and I’ve figured them out, except this one and an oil leak that may be the RMS...it’s eluding me and I can’t figure it out. I attempted to take of the housing cover but it didn’t seem like it was...

    Slow speed vibration

How low of speed? I'm dealing with this as well but found my issues was the rear driveshaft centering ball was trashed. What @AndyG recommended by taking the rear DS off and moving to 4H is what I did to settle that thought. There was no spring and needle bearings were gone. New parts on the...

How high can I gear my Dana 30 and 35 before I have to change carriers?

You can also get thicker gears too which help you pass that carrier split. I had 4.56 gears put in with a 30/44 with thicker gears

    Driveshaft issues

Anyone know how much free play there should be on the transfer case output (I think that's what it is). My backlash in the rear was right at .005 but where the output shaft is it definitely rotates about 15 degrees both ways. Is this normal? Probably easier for me to post a video...don't...

    Driveshaft issues

thanks! I'll measure it for sure the next time I get after it.

    Driveshaft issues

the u-joint I pulled out spilled black dust everywhere and not a single needle bearing or grease came out from one of the cups. But for sure, I didn't see any spring in the rear drive centering ball but there was some loose needle bearings, not as many as I thought there would've been.

    Driveshaft issues

They're basically right in line with the pinions, maybe .5 to 1 degree lower. 6-speed manual and running all rubber bushings. Replaced all body mount bushings 2k ago. Fluids are all legit, I was worried about the transfer case because I never checked it before but i popped my finger in the...

    Driveshaft issues

I did put in an LSD a few months back but that thing has been solid, and I got much help on this forum verifying that one. I read somewhere that when the rear u-joints go, the centering joint is not long after. rebuilding that driveshaft surely seems like the cheapest and least time consuming

    Driveshaft issues

It started with a bad vibration that I thought was just misalignment. I had some issues getting my axles squared due to some other work I did, but since came out on top. I heard a grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the front driveshaft so I replaced the centering yoke and the...

    Hunting Rig

A stock TJ would be fine. I hunted this year in mine and fit my buddy's 10ptr he bagged on the tailgate rack and hauled it to his truck. A dressed whitetail is no challenge to fit back there. 33's with a rear LSD and Warn winch got me feeling real comfortable for big game hunting on less than...

    Greg's 4x4 (Longmont, Colorado) Rant

All in all, the gears work great. Probably not the best job because I put in my own Detroit Truetrac and had to shim my gears to get the teeth otters right. Never could get it perfectly centered but at least within tolerance, probably due to workmanship at that shop. But hey, I didn’t have to do...

    Grinding noise while driving

You end up replacing the wheel bearings and/or the driveshaft? I think I'm experiencing the same thing you did. I installed a LSD in the rear and did an absolutely terrible job of squaring the axles afterwards and drove like that. Pretty sure I may have worn out a bearing and maybe the front...

    The Mountain Man's Jeep

ALRIGHT! Well I messed with the backlash and got .005 and the gears move real smooth. Coast side is still a little deep near the toe, but I think that's the way the 4x4 shop set the gears up when I had them done a few years back. For the life of me I could not get that pattern to change on...

    Gear pattern check

I did use the old shims in the same spot but the BL came out very high that it wasn’t worth even running a pattern check

    Gear pattern check

Now I wish I had done that before disassemble. It seems very tedious at this point to reinstall bearings on the old diff to view a pattern.

    Gear pattern check

Pretty sure the off-Road shop that regeared it installed the pinion too deep because I cannot change the pattern except for the drive side. Would you roll with this contact pattern?
