psrivats' 2005 TJ Rubicon mild build

Very good looking Jeep, especially with the new wheels.

    Instant regret buying Rubicon Express

Not Currie or Savvy? Might as well burn the Jeep to the ground according to some on the forum. No problem installing it or returning it for something higher quality. Have some fun with it if you install it. Rebuild it as needed and upgrade if you feel the need to.

Just have to pretend you can't hear them over the spray gun while you at least get the mud off your tires so they balance.

Soft shackles—proper use and fitting up

I used a chamfer bit I got at Home Depot and then cleaned it up with a dremel. Not total perfection, but doesn’t matter to me. Hit it with some spray paint afterwards. Picture makes it look slightly worse than it is. Pretty rounded all the way around with no edges.

TJ sucks in the snow—are these tires not meant for the snow?

A TJ is an ok vehicle in the snow if you know how to drive it. It will do much better than most vehicles on the road when the roads are unplowed, but once the roads become plowed with snow remaining it gets a little sketchier. Drive cautiously and a TJ is fine. I grew up driving my TJ on roads...

The unfortunate TJ of the day thread

This came across my Facebook today. Apparently it is a 22 inch lift with 42’s, tho that seems off to my eye.

    Rust opinions

Being in Dallas, I wouldn't buy that in a 1000 years. Rust might be repaired, but I would just get a clean one. Only one side having a cap is also a red flag to me.

    05 Flame Red TJ Build

I tend to think I have all the supporting mods for 35's besides shock relocations, an extra inch of lift, and gearing (I run 4.56). Not trying to pile on as well, but I don't really like my Jeep in its current setup but just haven't gotten around to fixing it. I really need the extra inch of...

Picking up where I left off

Y'all gotta stop posting pictures of these Jeeps. Makes me sad. The front rub rail slider is also a cool detail.

    What is character?

Working with Blaine is easy. I got a $10 ish part sent to me packaged well. Had no clue what he wanted for it so I just sent double what I thought he might. Couple hours later he sent back half with the PayPal caption “way too much for that”.

    Colorado Krew Hangout

FWIW the ski resorts out there are really struggling with snow. Telluride had one lift open and Crested Butte had basically one run. Not sure if this tells you anything about Buena Vista though...

Jeep LJ Build Pure Jeep Porn (GenRight)

To me, it is pretty fair for the parts you get, pretty steep for what you get ;)

Jeep LJ Build Pure Jeep Porn (GenRight)

I think it is listed for the same on MoneyPitClassifieds. Pretty steep considering you still need an LJ and an entire drivetrain. Pretty crazy money for what you could build with the at least $70k it would take to get it together.

Anyone running the GenRight Boulder 0" fenders?

I had thought it was a homebrew suspension with a bunch of Savvy parts on it. It was listed for what... $11k I think. Thought there must've been something wrong with it. Wasn't too far away from me either. Maybe the JV pics shoulda clued me in.

Anyone running the GenRight Boulder 0" fenders?

I saw that craigslist ad and forgot to give the guy a call and wrote it off. If I knew it was a Blaine build, probably woulda picked up the phone quicker. Damn.

Went wheeling for the first time yesterday. What upgrades should I prioritize for next time?

You're overbuilt for any blues at Rausch I've ever run. The greens are basically dirt roads. I ran some blacks with some winching with no armor besides a front bumper and had no damage. Winched up a red line too. I'd just wheel it and go from there. In my opinion, you won't get anything much...

    TJ Fest 2021 - Moab (April 24 – May 1, 2021)

I lived up by Yellowstone for a few years and my first Moab trip was Yellowstone - Moab - Grand Canyon and back home to Yellowstone. The road from Yellowstone straight to Moab may be closed due to weather even during the time of the event (happened to me), so it might be wise to look at the via...
