STICKY Jeep Wrangler TJ Factory Service Manuals (FSM) & Technical Documentation

WOW, a treasure trove of all kinds of information. THANK YOU so much. Just looking at the PDF list, it looks familiar, you may have given me this before some time ago. Shame on me for losing it. This time it's going in my Technical Manual folder. Thanks again.

    Wiring Diagram

Parked the 05 Wrangler X, 135,000 mi, next morning it would turn over fine but no start. CEL Codes were P0108, P0335 and P0340. The research I did steered me to the Cam Position Sensor. I have a three wire system and apparently one wire stays hot coming from the computer, I did have the...

    2005 4.0L won't start

I'll have to give a try disonnecting the battery to clear some codes. The CEL has disappeared on it's own before. Just getting the Jeep running will be a big relief. What ever happened to the day when all you had to worry about was the gap on the points and plugs. You may be old enough to...

    2005 4.0L won't start

Do you think disconnecting the battery to clear the codes will wipe the slate clean?

    2005 4.0L won't start

No I did not. Unplugged, replaced and cleaned, reconnected and tried to start. No luck . Did I do this wrong?

    2005 4.0L won't start

Yes, I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve today and dismantled the Throttle Body to clean it. The cam position sensor I replaced last year was not OEM.

    2005 4.0L won't start

These are the codes I found. They all somehow seem to be associate with the Cam Position Sensor, which I replaced last year. P0016, 0108, 0123, 0335, 0339, 0340, 0344, 0508, 2074 I'll have to address these one at a time and see what happens. I'm wondering if I just disconnect the battery to...

    2005 4.0L won't start

No, the battery is not a year old. However, I did disconnect the battery to replace the starter because it wouldn't start and found a loose wire. It would make a funny noise and act like it was misfiring then that would clear up. That happened a few time this past week.

    2005 4.0L won't start

Thanks Jerry. Yes I have CEL on. I was able to keep it running this morning if I gave it a little extra gas. But tonight I had to keep it at about 3K RPM to keep it going down the road. This issue started quite suddenly .

    2005 4.0L won't start

This morning the Jeep would not idle at a stop light and would shut down. Info I found on YouTube for that symptom indicated a faulty Idle Air Control Valve. I picked up a valve and limped on back home having to restart the motor several times . I changed the valve and cleaned the Throttle Body...

Shim adjustments to remove backlash in Dana 35

Good point Brian, that certainly would isolate some of what has been suggested so far.

Shim adjustments to remove backlash in Dana 35

Thanks all for the feedback. If it was a tranny mount, a pinion nut, or clutch issue these items would have failed by now, fifteen years and 135,000 mile on the Jeep. Excessive gear clearances would not necessarily be cause for failure, only slack in the drive train and a nuisance. The reason it...

Shim adjustments to remove backlash in Dana 35

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I understand tolerances between 0 .006 and 0.010 Rob but, if the clearances between the gears exceed the specification the slack will be there. Given this issue has been there since the Jeep was brand new, then I conclude the differential was never properly...

I'll be well informed before I dismantle that pumpkin. This is why I'm fact finding right now. Thanks for the input.

Shim adjustments to remove backlash in Dana 35

I bought the Jeep new in 05, it's a six speed 4.0L and has had a sloppy drive train since the day I drove it off the lot. If you're not smooth when shifting gears or shifting to quickly there a dead spot where the drive train is not engaged and the jeep bounces forwards and back until positive...

How do I make my Jeep spit flames and pop

I'm with you Kiwi, thought the same thing right along. Probably a 35 year old with to much time on his hands.

    Cracked radiator

I've got an 05 TJ 4.0L with 135,000 miles. This morning it was cold, I started the TJ to warm it up and left ten minutes later. I had zero heat coming out and about a mile down the road the radiator popped and I've got a two inch rip on top of the radiator near the fill cap. I drove it back home...

    Easiest way to diagnose misfires?

Food for thought. Three times now my 05 TJ 4.0L 135,000 miles has acted like it was misfiring. Engine chugs and instrument panel goes flat and CEL comes on. Spent $400 for parts, I did the labor. Replaced plugs, coil bank, cam position sensor and O2 sensors and it didn't fix the issue. Finally...
