TJ acts as if it's hitting the rev limiter when cold

hello, My jeep has been having this issue that only occurs when the jeep is cold when driven. the jeep will act as if its hitting a rev limiter when accelerating at rpms that don't justify a limiter. I have recently rebuilt the wiring the runs adjacent to the block on the passenger side and...

    Is my PCM bad?

Got a little technical question. My 2002 tj 4.0 5 spd with 221000+ miles would occasionally stutter some but otherwise ran great. The check engine light was on and I got P1391. I swapped the cam sensor, no change. Swapped the crank sensor, let it idle 10 minutes and drove it across the yard...

Solved: Jeep died on me tonight, now won't start

Quick bit of background before I describe my problem. I bought a 99 Sport 4.0 automatic in September with 190k miles. The car died on me on the way home from the purchase, turned out to be the fuel pump which my mechanic replaced and she's been running fine for last couple months of ownership...

Stalled after getting gas. Cranks but won't start.

About a week ago at the gas station, I got back in and had no power at all when I put the key in. I 'tightened' the connections to the battery (which were not loose) and it started right up. Yesterday I got gas and drove about a mile and it stalled as I slowed down for the red light. Wouldn't...

    Should I replace my CPS?

I have a 2003 jeep TJ 5 speed manual transmission and need to replace my clutch. After doing some research, I found a comment someone had made stating it is a good idea to change the CPS while you’re working on it. I have about 195k miles on my odometer and haven’t had any issues with the CPS...

    Spacer for crankshaft position sensor

On the Rockauto website there is a part number for the crankshaft position sensor spacer but when I look in the parts manual for a 98 Wrangler I don't see one. Some website say the 98 doesn't need the spacer some do. Anyone with a 97/98 Wrangler change the sensor and did you use a spacer? Thanks

    No bus and randomly stalling

I'm having an issue about which I've read some other threads but I wanted to describe my symptoms and get someone's opinion. For reference, this is a 1999 Jeep Wrangler L6/4.0L. My jeep has been sitting for a few months in various states of disrepair while I did work on the front end. I took it...

    Issue with Starting

To begin: (This is my first post here, so I apologize if this is in another thread somewhere, I tried to look around for one). Long Version (I'll try to put a shorter version below). Thursday I was out with a buddy and my Jeep died. I was in 4WD High, 2nd gear (I think), going 25-30 mph...

2002 Jeep Wrangler TJ with glowing red cats

Hey Guys, So recently I was on my way home and at a stoplight had a misfire in cylinder 2, and my exhaust sounded funny and fluttery, I was like 8 minutes away so I decided to drive it home and coast down hill. Long story short, I replaced the spark plugs, still had issues. I checked my coil...

Another cranks but doesn't start thread

Well here we go again... A few weeks ago I had a crank/no start (and then intermittent stalling, it started up the next day) issue that I resolved by replacing the TPS (aftermarket then OEM, learned that lesson...), the spark plugs, and cleaning up some ground leads. I also cleaned up and...

    Bad Crankshaft Sensor

Got everything up and running finally after a long winter. Went for a drive in the morning and everything was running smoothly. Then in the afternoon went for a drive and within 1 mile started stalling (I have a 2002 Wrangler X 6cyl automatic). I was able to shut down and restart, but kept...

2000 TJ ignition problem, now won't start

HI everyone. My 2000 TJ, Old Yeller, has been running like a clock since I got it 3 years ago. I went away on a trip, and it sat for 2 months (in the garage). When I came back, I took it out for a drive because I missed my pal. Started up perfectly, drove it about 5 miles, and... it...

    Persistent CPS Codes (P0340, P0344, P0016)

Have been going rounds with my 05 w/4.0L. Started getting cam/crank correlation codes (p0340, P0344, P0016 etc) I’ve replaced both sensors, timing set, and realigned the OPDA, reset the computer and thought everything was good. This morning leaving for work, was hard starting and still throwing...

Jeep Wrangler TJ Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement

There are several reason why you would need to replace your Jeep TJ Wrangler's Crankshaft Position Sensor (or CPS for short) with the most obvious one being that your 'check engine' light has illuminated and a quick check with an OBDII reader indicates you have thrown one of the following MIL...
