I've been meaning to get my leaking pinion seal for a few weeks now. Watched a how to video, ordered the part and puller recommend.

I'm pretty sure I have the wrong part since it doesn't match what I have now.
Is there multiple types of seals that work or do I need to buy a different one? If so any part numbers would greatly appreciated.

Unsure of seal application, but run a thin coat of rtv around outer lip before you install to help keep everything sealed tight.

Some have a dust shield, some don't. It looks from where I'm sitting that you have a correct seal. You may want to swap it out for one with a dust shield but it should work fine if it's the right size.

The dust shielded seals have lip and the others set inside the housing?

Here's another pic of the new one I bought that's supposed to fit, I just want to be sure. Our local parts store is showing the same without the lip/flange on them.

Ugh.. Just left our local parts store to see if they had one with the lip.

The guy says we're not showing a Rubicon for 04... The clerk next to him says yeah there's one, it's just a trim package same as any Wrangler! 😲🥴🤬

Well, end up finding a seal with the flange at O'Reilly's. I'm really glad I ended up using it since I feel like the one without would have been harder to install and possibly not seal as well. There's a bit of a chamfer on the outer rim that I was able to hammer the flange around to form a nice seal. Along with the silicone, I feel confident this should last awhile.

Buying a puller tool for $6 made pulling out the old seal a breeze.

Here's a pic of the seal I went with and how it looks installed.

Thanks for the info, I know it seems minor, but man there's a bunch of different seals offered for this Jeep!
