Really loved reading this and all you have done, reminds me very much of the journey I was in with mine. It never stops as you know mom in the process of trying to restore my winch as well. I just really want it to look “respectable” 😂. What grit sandpaper did you use to scuff it up?

Partially installed the winch back on. I’m debating on running a in cab switch. I installed one on my last XJ. Also this warn solenoid contractor needs replaced. Winch only spools in. I’ m going to try a cheap one off amazon for 30$. Warn wants over 100$.

Ordered a steel hawse fairlead to replace roller fairlead. It will look way better. I’m sure it will get scratched with the wire cable but I can touch it up with some spray paint. And ordered some hockey pucks to set bumpstops.

I redid my 5 pin socket harness and heatshrinked the connections. I don’t see how it even worked before. We’ll it spooled in and not out. The po had the brown and black wires together and from what I’ve read it bypasses warns safety deal. So if one side of the contractor goes out the winch won’t work at all. I plan to wire it up right with 5 wires so I need a new contractor I’m guessing.

Got the new contactor swapped in and nothing.🥺Not a click or a spark. Swapped armature lead with positive + lead nothing😢. So I wired it up like the old school 3 pin/wire setup and tried it. Bam spool in and out works.

Now I’ve got to get creative on spoiling the wire under load.

The winch is cabled in thanks to my wife for running the winch controller and revving the rpm’s Up while I guided the cable. Looks nice and works in and out.
Before and after…

Tore the front driveshaft apart to rebuild with 1310x joints and fix vibes around 40mph. I had to order the ball centering replacement cause I screwed mine up with a dremel when trying to remove the race the ball was in.

I got the driveshaft put back together, what a pain in the a$$ the cardan joint is! It was binding bad until I bolted it to the t case and rotated it and it popped in place. Test drove it and seemed fine.

Replaced the aluminum entry guards and put some rigid ridge rubber ones down.

Put the Ranchos on, and found some gas tank contact points. The skid is hitting the axle cover. And the track bar bracket is digging in the plastic tank.😧
