1997 Wrangler TJ tub-off restoration build

One side of the under tub panels are in place...will finish welding those tomorrow. Then start cutting out the other side..now that 1 side it done, the other should go fast as news tricks were discovered along the way.
Wll thn move to the rear and see how it can be cleaned out.

Nice work. I just love these kinds of threads. A TJ that had one foot..errr tire in the grave and soon it will be a vehicle that can be enjoyed for another 10 or 20 years. At the same time I am envious as I lack some of the skills and a lot of the patience to do what you are doing.

Good luck with the body work. When you are done I’m hoping you will put a quality paint job on it in the original color.

Thanks @mde8965. Its alot of work, but comes with a great feeling every time something is done. Its amazing out you can take a piece of shit and turn it into what you want. lol..
Yes I will keep the orginal Red color. I like the red and black combo. Will see.

Front and rear suspension done..just need to get an adjustable front track bar..and torque everything down at the front.. engine installed...
Engine looks durty on that freshly painted frame...Any tip on how to clean it and make it look good without going too crazy?? Please advise..

Thanks guys.. will now focus more on the tub and what needs to be replaced...the tub repair seem to be straightforward so far.. alot plug and play.

Some issues find with certain parts of the tub that i didnt expect to be too back. That will definitely add another week or 2 to the time. I need the rear cargo floor panel. wasnt planning on replacing it, but didnt like it condition, and I am already digging in that area. See images.

I didnt get any reply to my post above asking where to get the cargo floor metal, and didnt like how things look back there, so we going to fabricate it.. the structure back there is actually very simple.. those 3 crossmembers have surface rust but arent too bad..so will clean them up and por 15 them then reuse. The floor will be replaced by the heavier sheet of metal.. havent forced it yet.. will probably cut and weld them in 3 sections so that i dont lose the position of the 3 crossmembers...

The front section of thr tub is done..

Stay tuned for more progress....

@matkal you always have that wow face..LOL

This thread amazes and scares me as I’m probably looking at this in the future. 😬

Unfortunately yes..🙈. These cars are dying inside out..so what you may see on the outside may not be it true condition. That’s how I end up here on this project, but I already had an idea of what I would be doing.
I can say that every bolt on this thing was removed and replaced.

Bottom side of the rear cargo floor is in. This thing is 10 times stronger then factory.. will mount the top tomorrow and complete this part of the floor.. will seam seal all at the end..
Looking really good..
