Replacing my timing chain & sprockets on the 2.5L. The FSM says there should be an oil slinger between the cover seal and crankshaft sprocket . Is it possible the PO removed it or do some 2.5’s not have oil slingers?

I stumbled across the answer to my question...

in '00 they used one damper up until 2/11/00 after which they switched to the other one used thru '01. The '00 lists that slinger as # J317 3076 but in '01 as "not required". That would indicate the damper change negated the need for the slinger.

My build date is May 2000, so it has the updated damper and the oil slinger is not required.
