I bought my son a 2004 Jeep Wrangler 2 door Right Hand Drive vehicle as he is starting his job at a mail delivery man for the Post Office.

We are looking at getting some studded snow tires as he will be driving out on Rural Routes in the Snow (Eastern Washington).

The stock tires according to the internet were 215/75/r15 or 225/75/r15 and 235/75/r15.

The tires that are on it RIGHT NOW are LT235/75/R15.

I know someone who has some studded snow tires for sale on jeep rims - verified that the bolt spread is 5 X 4.5, which is the correct bolt spread for the 2004 Jeep.

QUESTION: The tires for sale on the jeep rims are 265/70/R17 - I wanted to know if on a stock 2004 Jeep Wrangler (It is a 2 door, so is that the Rubicon?) - can I put 265/70/R17 tires on it if they are already on 17 inch rims with the proper bolt spacing (5 X 4.5) - without having to lift the jeep or do anything special? I don't know if the wider tire or the bigger diameter rim will make a difference?

I'll attach a photo of the jeep if i can. Thanks in advance for anyone who can let me know anything about this. I apologize for being a newbie. I'm just the dad trying to get my son some studded tires without breaking the bank on new ones.

I had a 255/75/17 tire under my jeep when I bought it.

17x7,5 rims with 44.45 offset and it had 30mm spacers on it.

It had stock suspension at that time so it will fit. The only thing I had was that my tires were touching when I turned the steering wheel completely.

Pictures with the old wheels with standard suspension and no body lift.

Anyway. Check the offset of the rims. Maybe you need some spacers.

My opinion is to buy new P215/75/R/15 or LT 235/75/R15 studded snows and don't go down the 17" / Spacer rabbit hole.

That’s a little big for a stock suspension. It’s equivalent to a 31.7” tire. With a 1” body lift they would work, but as you said, you don’t want to do any other work on it.

I’m local and will keep a lookout for anything. Would be nice if you could find some studded tires and wheels that would work for a good deal.

Something seems off...maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think Jeep ever made a 17" wheel with 5 x 4.5.

Am I just not fully informed regarding Jeep wheel offerings?

You can run your VIN here to see what size tire your Jeep was actually equipped with from the factory. If those are the stock wheels, it was likely 30x9.50r15. However, I don't believe the 15x8 Canyon wheels in your pic were available in '04, I think they had changed to the Ravine for the 15x8 option.

Thank you ALL for your input - I really, really appreciate it! Since I'm not really looking to lift his Jeep to make room for new bigger wheels, even though it'd probably look pretty awesome, I'll hit up the tire dealership and bite the bullet and buy new studs for him for his rural mail route. Just started snowing here. I was just trying to find some cheaper options and craigslist and facebook marketplace had some R17 wheels with proper 5 X 4.5 bolt spread with studs already mounted on them for around $300 - $500. New Studded tires will probably run about $1,000, but I don't want him getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere because we all know who will get that call for help.

Thanks again everyone!
