@Fluxor - any chance of an aluminum rear bumper with low profile hitch?

Looks like the rear bumper is for sure an option per the IG storyline. Not sure about the aluminum part. Maybe steel skeleton with aluminum shell scenario.

I can't stop watching this post and the IG page in anticipation for the notification my front bumper is ready..

That picture is of a simple steel trail version. I have requests of adding a hitch to this version. Not sure when that will happen.

The Aluminum rear is what I am working on now I just cant seem to carve out the time to finish the design, been a busy couple weeks.

I would like the Aluminum rear to have a hitch option but that's easier said then done while keeping the weight down. Its possible and I see a way forward. I just need to spend the time in CAD to make it so. It would also be nice if there was one bumper with options but its looking like there will need to be two versions. One with Hitch and one without. This avoids a Close out plate for those not wanting the hitch and if I provide a template for trimming it could most likely be added afterwards.

It will also incorporate Aluminum soft shackle mounts.

It is possible to have a hitch essentially bolt onto the aluminum bumper? Perhaps with tapped holes in a thicker center section, which could be filled with bolts when removed. Not sure what the max tongue weight the lj is even rated for? 300lbs?

@UKTJ The 6061 Aluminum Backer combined with the rash guard does a few things. First it saves a significant amount of weight, second the rash guard is replaceable and adds a ton of strength when laminated or layered on the top of the aluminum. The aesthetics is second to the above although I do have details I like and don’t like that make it into the designs.

Thanks

@GTTJ

I’m in the Ocala area so pick up is definitely possible. Please email me [email protected] to get on the order list.

Great pricing for the quality of work!

Are you going to run it as-is, or are you going to polish it up?

I will make the aluminum finish match my existing sliders and rear corners. The steel reenforcements might end up painted silver, unless a stainless option becomes available.

Nothing will happen until the recovery rings are available and I figure out how to carry over and improve the axillary lighting from my current bumper.

Keep us posted on what you do with the lighting. My new bumper is still sitting in the box, but I am going to be adding lights to it someway or another as well.

This is the rear Aluminum Bumper. I am thinking of two versions one with Hitch and one without. I may also make a cover plate so you could always add one later so I have less parts to deal with. Also added carriage bolts to one side just to see what it would look like. I would like some feedback on which you prefer. Also interested in how many would want the Hitch vs not.

Been looking at a bunch of different way to mount things. The OE crossmember is pretty thin. It seems like making the bumper shell stronger and mounting the item to it makes the most sense.

I have zero idea of what the hitch capacity is until I make one and try it. I use my hitch for my bike rack most of the time and I think this will do great for that purpose.
