2004 LJ In Flux

Glad most all is well for you after the hurricane.

Does the spare tire carrier sit against the tailgate on the top and sides?

The 6061 hinge spans the the tailgate using the OE hinge and OE spare tire carrier attachment points. There are vertical holes in the hinge that the STC bolts to.

Do you have a guess at what sort of weight the hinges & mount can support?

Short answer no.

long answer.

I have tested it with a bfg 35 and steel wheel. Carries it with no problem. I have 18 sets in the wild with various wheel and tire combos and no issues as of now. The OE latch and there only being one latching point is the weak link.

Oddly enough it’s really really important that you support the tire with some sort of “bumper” on the lower valance to prevent the start of movement that would twist the tailgate vertically. Doesn’t take much preload but its super important. My kit comes with a delrin spacer that spaces the OE rubber snubber out 1.5 inches and the carrier is adjustable in and out. Adjust carrier so the tire creates a small amount of preload when shut. The hinges support the weight, the latch keeps it closed and the isolator prevents vertical twisting.

That initial test was with no corner or tailgate armor. As those items are added I would imagine the strength goes up. Again how much is hard to tell.

I stood on the tailgate while a buddy closed it and it was solid. But that doesn’t really mean anything. Static and dynamic capacity is wildly different.

I’ve noticed you have a tire snubber on the lower valance, my 97 does not. I have 4 on just the tailgate. The 2 passenger side snubbers are inline with hinge but I don’t believe you have holes for them on the hinge. The 2 drivers side snubbers are also inline with the hinge but extend past further to the driver side past where your last hinge bolt. Would you recommend adding a riv nut in the valance for the snubber? Is just that one enough to stop the vibration?

Great question. I would say yes and yes. The slight preload of the tire on the valance snubber “locks” for lack of a better term the tailgate between it and the latch. Otherwise the seal between the tailgate and the body is all that’s preventing vibration.

You can counter bore the delrin spacer with a regular drill bit so it sits flush on the valance.

You don’t need a lot of pre load. An 1/8” of interference works.

Lol, I’m still working out some bugs. I have a friend at Searchalitics that’s helping me build it. I’m happy with it so far, outside side of the verbiage in a few places. And I still need to get images together etc.

My sister is helping me with some of the communication. So you may start seeing Kelly responding to emails here and there.

Congrats man! It’s awesome knowing you are making desirable items that are Wizard influenced and approved. Doesn’t get much better than that.

@Fluxor, if we emailed you an order before the site was up should we wait or run an order through the site?

All orders are still via email. The site is really just an info hub right now. As I get orders fulfilled I hope to be able to have parts “in stock”. I will list things as available on the site once I reach that goal. I still have to figure out the whole shipping side of the website process too.

Hey flux, maybe I missed it somewhere in the 25 pages. Do you send an email confirmation back to the sender when you receive one? I ask bc I emailed awhile back about corner armor but didn’t get anything back. Do you need certain info in the email? Thanks.

Yes sir, I may have missed it or it may have gone into my spam. Feel free to pm me you email and I can check or resend it to [email protected]. If Anyone sends me an email and you don’t get a response with in the day please let me know on here or Facebook messenger. I check all three daily.

Thanks

Thanks for everyone’s patience. I have a lot parts in to finish kits. I have a few sets of TJ corner guards that will ship next week. I’m waiting on boxes. Also have a the TJ rocker kits and am boxing them up this week. Soft shackles are in and will start shipping in a few weeks after I get these other parts out. The next batch of front bumpers are cut and waiting to hit the break press. I have a few people waiting on LJ corners and rockers, they are next on the list.

I am processing everything in the order they are placed to the best of my ability.

Again thanks for your patience!

Yes but not soon. I have other items In front of fenders. Priority list is rear Aluminum rear bumper, Gas tank skid, under armor including oil pan, finish my mid arm then fenders.

Aluminum Fenders? Would be very interested in those. About to replace my driver's side fender for the second time in 4 years due to rust.

On that rear bumper is the middle hole a section for trailer hitch?
