I have a 2004 jeep tj with a 5-speed manual 4.0 that "needs" to be swapped or rebuilt. I have found an engine from a shop with very low km from an auto 2005 tj. Just wondering if there's anything electrical I have to look out or any changes that may cause issues for a direct swap for before buying this engine. Thanks!

@Mr Blaine would know if he posts, I think he has been involved in quite a few transplants.

That is the split away from the previous controller generation, 05-06. You will have to swap the flywheel onto the 05 from the 04. If you compare the intake manifold, you will know if it has to be swapped for the intake air temp port. If it is there on the 05 and just plugged, that gives you a place for it. If it is not threaded and just an empty boss, then you'll have to swap the intake over.

You'll have to remove the converter pilot bushing from the crank to swap in the pilot bushing and bearing.

Other than that, should be a pretty straight forward swap. Just do a good point by point comparison.

@Mr Blaine ,Greetings Mr. Blaine, I'm performing a comparable engine transplant, but with an '04 to '05 conversion, requiring adjustments to the flywheel, manifold, and converter pilot bushing to facilitate the pilot bushing and bearing exchange from the crank. Does that sound correct

What manifold are you referring to? The pilot bushing and bearing are the same for both manual transmissions. If it is the auto, then you will need nothing since it will already have the torque converter bushing in the crank end.

Maybe explain what trans was behind the 04 and what trans is in the 05 that you are going to use.

So the motor off the 04 had a 5 speed and the 05 currently has the 6 speed. Air intake manifold has an extra sensor?

Nothing in the crank changes between 04-05. The pilot bearing and bushing remain the same.
I picked SKF because they include the bushing that the bearing presses into.

Unless you are doing the swap differently and rounding up parts you don't have, just use the 05 manifold.
