My Jeep has given me no problems at all bc I’ve always taken good care of it. But recently, it has started to make a noise when I start it...the rattling stops when I put it into drive or reverse. Does anyone have any insight as to why this may be happening?

Is it isolated to any particular location, or louder in any location?

Definitely check your serpentine belt and radiator fan.

That sounds like a typical nv 3550 5 speed gear rattle at idle .

Changing fluid sometimes helps , give it 2 quarts Redline MTL and calm is in the morning.

Heat shield coming loose will do that. Not sure why it stops when you go in gear but it is a common thing.
Obviously you have stopped taking good care of it.😉
