Hi all!
new to the forum and have a strange thing goin on with my 05 rubi auto trans. In early January I felt the Jeep slip going about 65 on the highway. The RPMs shot up but no power to the wheels. I let off the gas and I immediately felt re-engagement and I took off just fine and got home. The whole occurrence was about 3-5 seconds. I got her home and checked for any leaks or burnt ATF smell and nothing. I thought I’d keep an eye on it and go from there. Well it happened again about 500 miles later. I decided I’d drop the pan and change fluid and filter. Not a full flush. Didn’t happen again for 1000 miles and I thought I was in the clear but no. At this point I’m thinking it has to be electrical with how infrequent it happens. I’ve tried to manually recreate it by getting on the gas going up hills but everything acts fine. It shifts fine 100% of the time and when I feel the slipping it’s not when the trans is trying to shift. It seems to happen when my foot is steadily down on the pedal going about 2100-3500 RPMs although it has happened city driving going about 35-40 MPH as well. But again my foot is steady on the pedal, not heavy or too light. Just normal driving and bam it pops out. I let off the gas, RPMs come down and on I go. It has never happened twice in the same day, or even twice on the drive. I’ve swapped out upper and lower speed sensors, throttle position sensor and like I said above ive dropped the pan and changed fluid and filter. I don’t think it’s related but I did get a bank 2 O2 sensor code about a month before this started happening and swapped it out with the proper NTK sensor. Could the two be related? Also the tj has 89k on it. Do I possibly need the trans rebuilt? I’m under the impression it has to be electrical not mechanical seeing as how it’s so ran down and I can’t recreate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
