I've been looking over forum post all over and trying to find the same issue I've been having for the last couple of weeks unable to find the solution.
2006 Tj unlimited 4.0L auto non-SKIM
Dies after 20min or so not contestant and wont restart. here a list of what I've done and checked.
replaced grounds to block PCM and Batt Engine checked engine to body an -body to hood.
replaced both upper o2 sensors NTK disconnect battery overnight (so called PCM reboot)
Replaced crank sensor with factory Mopar (ouch)
New battery
Replaced ignition module on collum.
PCM has got good ground .03 ohm to block and battery.
Starts every morning or after work just fine runs for a while the ASD and fuel relay start to drop signal at random then they start doing it fast until it dies.
I try and restart it and hold the key on and it will turn or for a sec stop and turn again for a second and stop as long as i hold the key in the start position (ill post a video)
At that point i can jumper the starter and it turns over just fine. Walk away for roughly 30 mins and it will start back up but die quicker.
When it's running sometimes i can turn on the defrost and it will die and sometimes it won't (doesn't matter if i disconnect the ac pump and relay or not) yesterday it didn't seem to make a difference with it on or off it kept running tell the ASD and fuel relays started dropping signal. (ASD controls the fuel relay same signal from PCM right?)
When this all started two weeks ago, I thought it was just the battery I had 14.4 volts from alternator, so it has been replaced but yesterday I noticed was only getting 12 vdc from the alternator. The Voltage is regulated by the PCM right?
Live data on Scanner shows ECT sits around 200 so I wouldn't think bad temp sensor.
Dash gauges all come on and nothing weird when it dies. No Codes
Any Ideas? Wife wants her Jeep back.

@DirtyFranky How is your shifting from first to second in the morning? There is an occasional hard shift when cold that is usually the first sign of a faulty pcm. How is the idle and gas mileage?

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Mark
Well, I haven't been able to drive it. It likes to die on me. I'll give it a try tonight in the neighborhood. 1st to second hard shift you say.
It idles fine better with new o2 sensor after it warms up right before it starts to cut out.
I'll give it a shot tonight and get you a video of it idling before the demons come out. yesterday it ran at operating temp for about 20min.

Seems my alternator is not getting out put from the pcm now running 12.30
I should have voltage on the connection from pcm to tell regulator on the alt? when this all started it was putting out 14.5

PCM out puts a PWM signal not voltage right?

So a little update found broken ground on the neg side going to voltage regulator of the alternator. Its charging now but over charging I believe.
14.8 to 15.2 v checked the output to voltage regulator and its showing 11.6 but the battery is showing 12,6 with alt disconnected 14-15 when hooked up
Is this normal output from PCM? Voltage reg on alternator faulty? When i disconnect the alternator makes no difference with the ASD chatter I'm having.
Any ideas?
