2006 Wrangler Hard Shift 1st to 2nd, Overdrive Delay

Hello All.

2006 Wrangler, 4.0, Auto.

Here’s the situation:

After adding a can of Seafoam Trans Tune (I know many will roll their eyes, lol)
I IMMEDIATELY started having a very hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear.
And It is also slow to shift into 4th gear and overdrive.

This improves after a few minutes of driving.

I know signs often point to PCM issue.
I should note that my gas gauge also occasionally doesn’t work. And I have intermittent CEL for EVAP/ 02 codes.

So yes. Probably PCM.

However, Ive only ever heard of the hard shift 1st- 2nd issue. I haven’t heard many mention the overdrive or 4th gear issue in regard to PCM.

What do you guys think? PCM or transmission?

@jordancollard97 a hard shift from 1st to 2nd is the transmission control side of the computer failing you. It usually happens twice until up to operating temp. Back up a minute.

Why did you add a can of seafoam trans tune in the first place?

From my understanding, these trans are very sensitive to the correct fluid being used, so you might need to flush out the old and fill with fresh ATF +4

I just searched and found this thread from a few years ago where the wrong fluid was used and they experienced similar problems
