32RH swap thread that isn't 5 years old but will be by the time I get done

Can somebody please tell me what the smaller ring with the bolts is for? I purchased this flexplate from eBay but it didn't arrive with the smaller ring. Is this required? What purpose does it serve? In my mind, I'm thinking it might be a shim of some sort....🤷‍♂️

I've contacted the seller but haven't heard back yet...

Don't personally know what it does, but I'd probably try to find one. Blaine has done enough swaps that I imagine he will know if it's important or not.

Not a shim, stiffener to slow down how fast the center cracks out of the flexplate.

That is a really odd name for something that does exactly zero adapting of anything to anything.

My mistake, I was on the 2.5L page. They call it that there. Still weird. On the 4.0 page, it's called a "plate, drive plate backing" - makes more sense.

Edited my original post to have both part numbers and clips of the manual for anyone who may stumble upon it in the future.

It’s called a (flex plate) stiffener around here. Yes, you need it.

I just had a flex plate delivered, I'll have to check and see if it came with this stiffener.

Here's the same extended rear seal I installed into my 32RH. It's needs a BFH to pound it into the rear of the 32RH, I protected it with a piece of scrap aluminum while seating it.

FWIW--I had a hard time finding this seal (2904400). Its listed as out of stock or discontinued almost everywhere. I ended up finding one from DesertRat.com and placed an order. I had no updates other than "order received". My package arrived yesterday with an address direct from Teraflex. So if anyone is looking for the extended seal, I'd start by calling Teraflex first because even they didnt have it listed as available online.

Wow that's great to hear. I have checked Tera's several times over the past year or two for it and couldn't even find it listed any more.
