New owner of a 99 TJ 4.0 auto with 175k miles and rebuilt engine (3k miles).

Trans leak from pan area recently developed and was wondering if anyone has had any success using a stop leak additive. If so, which one? Considering trying this low cost option prior to taking to mechanic for diagnosis/repair. Thoughts?

Don't add ANY stop leak or any other types of additives to the ATF. If it's truly leaking from the pan first make sure its bolts are snug. Use nothing larger than a 3/8" ratchet wrench to minimize the chance of overtightening them. The official tightness is only 13 ft-lbs.

If they're all tight it's time to replace the gasket.

There's a 50/50 chance the leak is somewhere else and is finding it's way to the low spot, which happens to be the lip of the pan. Dry everything off on the trans case and then wait for fluid to show back up and trace it. Paper towels are your best friend when it comes to tracing a transmission leak. Jam em everywhere once you get it clean, then wait. The answer will be presented unto you.
