Hi all,
I'm not sure where to post - my '97 4.0 auto has the 32rh transmission, I think. I'm trying to see if there are any reliable websites to purchase a core, a core outer shell, or whole trans to replace my slightly cracked one. Front driveshaft ujoint blew up next to the thread where the solenoid connects to a couple years ago - still leaking. I'm not sure if in my efforts to ease the driveline vibrations, I made the crack worse or something else got damaged back there. I don't have a lift or extra help to check it easily right now. This sucks because when I got the jeep couple years ago, the PO was selling it because their kid damaged gears and got it rebuilt.
In the past, I've tried epoxy twice, took it to a shop here in south texas but they really only do easy, bolt-in repairs for trucks. They did not resolve this issue at all other than taking it out, making me transport it to get it welded, even after I told them to see if it's just a crack or something else. Apparently there aren't any transmissions available anywhere here, as I live real far down the tip of Texas.

I've been trying to avoid buying a whole replacement trans for a tiny crack, but I'm tired of leaking fluid and leaving a shirt to soak it all up. I'm preparing for worst case scenario and seeing if any of you know somewhere I can get a core or just the shell from, since I've looked for such a long time now. I recently found this pretty good option: https://www.usapartsonline.com/prod...ngler-transmission-transaxle-auto-trans-6-cyl

Thx yall

P.S - I hate the PO broccoli head Edgars with daddy oilrig money
P.S.S - I hate that I didn't know better

Any chance you have a pic of the crack? I love this transmission, and haven't ever seen a damaged case.

Compared to when I last looked, that price is a little high for the trans, but it (a) includes the torque converter and (b) includes a 5yr warranty. I didn't find any used transmission places offering anything more than a 30 day warranty. So from a peace of mind standpoint, that's nice. I would have probably bought that when mine was having trouble, esp if the case itself made a straight DIY rebuild impossible.

However...if they didn't rebuild it, then they don't actually know the condition of the clutches or seals. What that means to you is that it could start having trouble tomorrow. I don't say that to scare you off, rather to remind you that the warranty means they'll fix it (hopefully), NOT that you shouldn't expect any trouble over that time. Not that you should expect trouble either. Just trying to level set on what it means.

Even if you found a case or a core with a good case, I don't see a trans shop moving the guts over out of yours for less money. Least ways I don't know of a trans shop that will do that and not also try to replace any worn parts they see at the same time at which point it will turn into a rebuild. The only exception to that might be if they just built it for you, you ran it for a short time, cracked the case and then needed the guts swapped to a new case.

As for the one you posted for sale, more than a bit odd going on there. That 5 year unlimited mileage warranty sounds good, I suspect they are depending on you forgetting where you got it and they have some hoops to jump through in the fine print. There is no good way to offer that warranty on a used trans.

Im sorry I think i got rid of all my pics and videos since i thought i was gonna get it fixed but I got this one thats not so good. Id take more but the outside is already smothered in jb weld.

The crack goes thru the solenoids thread and some more towards the top of the housing. i got it welded but i didnt see how much exactly got covered. Im thinking the leaks coming thru the thread

I also agree with u that my trans condition may not be what I think it is and its time to full fix anyway. Since when I bought the jeep 3 years ago, some shop apparently rebuilt it but given what ive seen here, i doubt they even did what they said.

I also think so, but i guess Ill take the risk, i already almost died in the jeep like 3 times and dropped more $$$ than I should have even after consulting with people i thought were reliable
