I am looking to up-grade from 33's to 35's on my TJ. 4.0 I6, Auto trans.
I currently run 3.73 on 33's and it bogs down bad when going up hill. This is my daily driver and my toy.
Im looking for best power ratio but still decent enough on gas to drive daily.

Assuming you have a Dana 30 up front (which you should), I think the biggest you can run is 5.13.

If that's the case, I think that is what you should do as I believe 4.88 is ideal for 33" tires (assuming you have a 42RLE).

@mrblaine or @Jerry Bransford will know better than I would since they have decades of experience.

Yep Chris is right on, go with 4.88 for your 33's and 42RLE transmission. 4.56 would only be the right choice if you had the 5-speed manual transmission.

No, he wants to run 35" tires (he's planning on upgrading) so wouldn't 5.13 be more appropriate for 35"?

4.88s for 35s and 5.13s if you plan to go bigger say to 37s....I should qualify my set up.

I am running 285s (almost 33s)
Dana 44 front and rear with 4.88s
Yukon Zip Lockers front and rear

Sorry, I missed that he's upgrading to 35's. Definitely 5.13 since that is the lowest available ratio for his front Dana 30. Otherwise I'd suggest 5.38. 4.88 isn't quite enough gear for 35's with the 42RLE transmission, I hate my current 4.88 gearing with my 35's and 42RLE... the engine is always either bogging down or about to bog down on the highway. 4.88 is only appropriate for 35's when you're running the 5-speed John. :)

thanks this helps a lot. 5.13 might be what Ill get for now unless I can find a cheap Dana 44 front.

I found my Dana 44s out of a wrecked 2006 Rubicon at Davies Jeeps in Ohio, paid $3,400.00 + $450.00 shipping. With the rebuild they are worth a bit more now.

They go for a pretty penny, that's for sure. I always wonder what my Super 44s would be worth front and rear.

I just bought an 03 Jeep TJ with a Rubicon Express short arm suspension and it has 410 gears is what I've been told front and rear its my daily driver I drive it 15 km a day total I do plan on putting a lot more money into this thing within the next 5 years I have vibration when I go into 5th gear at 80 to 90 100 km an hour are 410 gears appropriate? I also have 35s with a five-speed manual

4.10 is a terrible choice for 35's, 4.88 works great with the 5-speed. I ran that combination for years and loved it. 5.13 would be a good choice too. You'd be amazed at how much better your Jeep would run after regearing to 4.88 or 5.13, even your mpg would likely improve a bit too.

Well maybe when the truckers go back he can get a set of 4:88's. I know my 2005 TJR 6 speed runs much better on 4:88's than it did on 4:10's
I went from 4.10 to 5.13. From sluggish to sporty.
