$8.50 recovery rings

Has anyone tried these. Seems like a cool idea converting a hard shackle into a snatch block.

It's got good reviews.

I used one of these when a person in the group could not get low range and 42rle transmission stuck in 3rd. Oh and his double ended ram stopped working. The donut worked good on the winding trail pulling at angles.

Mine arrived. For $8 it was either going to replace my smitty snatch block or be a cool paperweight. The inside channel feels smooth, some pitting on the outer lip.

The picture makes it look like there is an edge around the inside face, where it would rub against the soft shackle during use. Is it just the picture?

Which part rubs against what when using these rings? And why are we ok with that?

Interesting use of a ring in this video. I'd like to think there's a better way, the way they rigged it if the ring failed it could be real bad.

that's the kind of loading I was imagining when I first posted in this thread. That's under tension and the material properties matter.

I have no idea why they wouldn't have just run the rope through the soft shackle and used it as intended.

Yep, any sort of imperfection in that ring could make it shrapnel.
