I have a 97 2.5L with a just rebuilt 30rh auto.

Since getting my 05 Sport i kinda like the extra power 😀

I found a 97 4.0L 5 speed stick with 130k for $550.

Any risk of PCMs not working right?
will it need any VIN reprogramming?

Will the electronics match with no quirky thing coming outta left field, since both are 97s?

If you swap everything over from the 4.0 with the 5 speed it will work just fine without any issues.

When I say everything, I mean the PCM, wiring harness (engine wiring harness), transmission, etc.

There are major differences between an SE and a Sport, that you'll discover when you go about swapping things around. A few that immediately spring to mind are motor mounts, skid plate, drive shafts...

Yes, you'll need the entire vehicle to do it right, that will be the easiest way. The radiators are different, skid plates, motor mounts, driveshafts, etc.

If you don't have the entire donor vehicle in it's entireity, it will be a huge hassle.

Smart move. If you want a 4.0, it's honestly just easier to sell the entire vehicle and buy one with a 4.0 in it.
