I am having a little trouble with my new harness I made for my 97 TJ that I swapped a 98 Ram 5.9 in place of the factory 4 cylinder. I used the Ram transmission and the TJ transfer case. I kept the TJ harness and pinned the 5.9 required circuits into it. I have 3 wires that came from the RAM C130 connector ( goes into the PDC ) that I am not sure where to connect them to on the TJ. They are all Trans related:

C130
Cav Circuit
12 L10 18 BR/LG
31 T16 18 RD
8 L1 18 VT/BK

I also have an GN/OR wire for the ASD that I believe I need to just wire into the body side harness to the TJ ASD circuit.

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm heading out to work on my TJ right now but can try to look at my FSM's tonight. When I built my harness I found it was easier since I was keeping the 46RE to just use the Dodge harness and blended the TJ harness into it.

My block cracked on my 5.9 so I ended up swapping in a 5.7 Hemi instead. I'd built a stroker 5.9 making it a 6.7.

Thanks for the cheat sheet - I'll be out in the garage this weekend but it looks like the top two on the cheat sheet helps most of my transmission leads. I'll let all know how it goes.

Good luck & keep us posted.

@Paparock1 did a 5.9 swap into his TJ also but I think he used the Ram harness like I did.
@Dan_Goodwin also did a 5.9 swap into his TJ.

YES! In retrospect, I shouldve used the Ram harness but live and learn, right? I was too far into it to change back after I realized but it should all be fine soon, just a little more work.

Yep, I'm sure we can all put our heads together and get you running.

Why did you keep the RAM t-case instead of using your Jeep 231? What version is in the Ram truck? Is it the NP241? I forget. Isn't it larger?
What rear axle did you swap in? Or are you going to try and make the Dana 35 live?

Sorry if I was unclear - Ram 5.9 & Trans. Used the 231 out of the TJ - had to use a shortened shaft to mate the Trans & Transfer case. Engine, Trans & TC are in the TJ now, just need the harness completed, Trans mount, front accessory drive sorted, radiator, finish the exhaust, and the fuel sync since I replaced the distributor.
So close, yet so far!

OK Cool sorry I misunderstood.

Do you have a scanner to set your fuel sync with? If not I've a SnapOn MT2500 I could loan you to get it set with.
Do you have a good PCM? Have you thought about getting a canned tune from FRP or HemiFever? They do help & make a difference.

What exhaust? Headers or stock manifolds?

Here's a good thread on the subject too.

Or this one

My brother in law is a professional mechanic by trade so I am covered on the fuel sync - Thanks for the offer.

I am using the truck PCM to start, I may pursue a tune later.

I am going to attempt to use the stock truck manifolds, I started to fab the exhaust off of those - fingers crossed for clearance - I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks for the links!

Cool good to know on the fuel sync. It's important and many people don't know about it. I was one of those people back when I did my 5.2 swap & then had to fix a blown plenum gasket.

There isn't a real reason to get a tune for many unless you have a PCM with the death flash. I used to have a list of PCM's that had the death flash but lost it. The PCM I had for my 5.2 had a mild tune on it.

You can use the stock manifolds or shorty headers if you don't have a 3link front with a tall bracket you should be OK.... Don't ask me how I know......
I had a radius arm suspension when I had the 5.2 and didn't have any issues. But when I did the Savvy 3/4 link suspension it really makes fitting things HARD.
Getting things to fit with they 5.9 Magnum or 5.7 Hemi were both a PITA....

Update - I cant believe its been since November but harness is finally complete and re-loomed. All sensors are connected as of last night.

Jeep turns over and will partially fire. The engine is acting like the distributor or plug wires are out of order. The compression kicks back on the starter so something is definately wrong there. I had to replace the distributor when installing the motor so I will find TDC for #1 and rerun the plug wires and dist cap tonight.

Slow but some Progress.

You either have the distributor in correctly or it's 180* out...

That's if you didn't turn the engine over at all while it was out. There is a notch in the side of the distributor for lining up the rotor onto when setup on TDC.

Then because you had the distributor out you're going to need to reset the fuel sync so you'll need some sort of scanner that allows this operation to be done like a SnapOn MT2500. I know you said your BIL could help you out there.. And then verify the firing order.

Here's a TSB on spark plug routing and one on spark knock & the plenum gasket.
