97 TJ Steering Wheel Won't Lock

The steering wheel on my 97 Jeep Wrangler TJ won’t lock after removing the key and now I can’t tow my Jeep. Any ideas what’s causing this?

I'm pretty sure not all of them came with a steering column lock. I doubt you would want to tow it locked anyway. Front tires need to track around corners. Assuming you are towing behind a motorhome.

My 2000 tj has never locked. If using a tow bar, should be good since I tow mine often

My 98 does not lock.

For some reason I believe the lock or not lock goes along with the type transmission you have. I have a manual and my column locks. Wish it did not.

I have a 5speed and no lock

Lift the front and turn the steering wheel 1 full revolution with the key out and you should find where it locks.

If it locks when your towing it. Front tires will not last long at all. Mine is a 97 and does not lock. Sure hope it does not when turned also. Be bad to have to leave my key in it. When were towing it behind the RV.
