I have a 98 Sport, auto transmission. I will keep it short since alot of topics have been covered. My jeep will crank but won't start. It was running fine driving down the road then I lost power. Turned it off and it started right back up. A couple of weeks later it did the same thing as I was at a friend's house. I pulled the horn relay and swapped it with the fuel relay which was very hot. Started right up and drove it home. Next day, went out and all it would do was crank no start, changed out the relays and still no start. Figured it was the fuel pump, replaced the fuel pump still no start Pulled it over to a garage he checked everything out changed relays and jumped the fuel relay fired right up. Replaced the relay with the one I had in it and ot started every time. Drove it for about 15 minutes and it died out on me. Replaced the relay still no start. Of I pull the fuel relay and jump it fires right up. I haven't drove like this because I'm worried it might start an electrical fire. Any ideas on why this is happening? New battery, new starter i know I need to change the clock spring because I have no horn and my airbag light is on. I bought the jeep last December and haven't had any issues until now.

I have no codes, I checked the grounds but they are all corrosion free. I don't have any electrical tools. The mech said there were no codes to pull. I haven't checked the wiring by the tank because with the jumper it starts right up
if you bypass the relay and it fires up it would make me want to use a meter and check the wires going into the relay socket. Power in and out work but what about the power to activate the relay? The ground for the relay?

Aside from all the fuel related actions, it acts just like a bad crank sensor. Based on what you've said, I'm not (yet) convinced that the fuel relay and all those activities aren't coincidental to the ability to start back up.
That can be hard to do. I bought one of these a while back, found it very handy.

Ricky when I do the back check with a meter, what should I be looking for? Numbers wise ohms or amps?
Your relay may vary from this.but its the same idea. You need power from a trigger wire and ground for it to function.
When this happened to me I also got no codes. I replaced the Pickup Coil in the distributor. and then it fired back up and ran until I got home but eventually did throw a code on the way for the crank Position sensor. With the replacement of both my issue was resolved. Just throwing it out there.
