Adding Cruise Control to the TJ, and Hyundai Tiburon Seats

Hi all, I posted the CC in the how to section, but wasn't sure how far it would reach, so here it is :

On my 06 X, 4.0, I didn't have the factory cc harness. Followed Brent's video and made an overlay harness. All hooked up, but no cruise light. I had tapped into the brake switch wires, and realized I didn't remove the VT/Y and VT/Wh from the plug.

With that done, I was able to get the cc light on the dash to go on. Then it went off as quickly as it went on. Did a test drive, hit the switch and the light went on for about 5 seconds then turned off. No cc activation while driving.

Has anybody had this same problem, and what was the solution ? I've searched the site and didn't find anything close.

Also, I have two Tiburon seats in good condition if anyone in the Denver Metro area and beyond can use them.

Mine was getting sticky lately after 4 years or so. Wasn’t great, I need to adjust it so it engages later in the turn

I would suggest double checking your wiring. Below is what I came up with when I added cruise to my 2005 LJ, which would have the same wiring as your 2006.

Servo Plug

• Pin 1 to C3 Pin 12 (VT/YL)
• Pin 2 to C3 Pin 5 (VT/LG)
• Pin 3 to Brake Switch Pin 4 (VT/WT)
• Pin 4 to Ground (BK)

Brake Switch

• Splice into Pin 3 to C3 Pin 7 (VT/YL)

Clock Spring

• Splice into VT to C3 Pin 34
• DB/DG (Ensure Ground Exists)

On the clock spring VT, did you sever it and then splice for pin 34, or did you leave it whole and splice into it ?

I did not sever any existing wires. For the splices, I cut off part of the insulation then soldered the new wire to the existing wire.

All the wires checked out, and the cc didn't work. I replaced the spliced brake switch wires back into the plug, severed and spliced the VT clock spring wire, and the system works. It will set at 40 mph and above, but nothing lower.

Before, with the VT wire whole and spliced, and the brake wires plugged in, the cc light would come on for a few seconds, then go off and the system didn't work on a test drive. I tried various ways of plugged unplugged, with no work results.

Still trying to figure out where the other end of the VT wire goes. For now I'll live with it, and down the line reconnect if I need to.
