Hey everyone! I got my TJ over the summer. It is super clean, zero rust anywhere, and I got it for a good price. The only thing I don't like about it is the 3"-4" body lift that came on it but I heard that it isn't too hard to remove so I figured I could just remove it myself.

I am not an expert mechanic but I am pretty handy so I'm confident I'll be able to do it my self. I wanted to get some tips and tricks from people who have far more experience with TJ's than I do.

I've learned from other threads and YouTube videos to 1) remove the bolts from the gas tank filler tube, 2) remove transfer case extension, 3) remove steering extension, and 4) remove bolts from the radiator fan shroud.

I also know to remove the pucks from one side at a time. Any other advice would be a huge help! Pictures of where and what these parts look like (especially for the transfer case and steering extension) and what size the stock body mount bolts are would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Before deciding on a course of action, can we see pics of your transfer case skid, gas tank and maybe your motor mounts? I don't feel like there's anything to worry about there, but better safe than sorry

Those aren't stock tires, you know they're going to fit before pulling it? Good to have an idea before wrenching. Guys on here that can tell you with confidence. Also those look like Mopar shocks, curious if those are original? Don't see those on this forum very often, ha.

No they’re 33’s and I’m debating if I want to add a suspension lift when I get rid of the body lift or go down to 31” tires. I’m leaning towards new tires for now because I live in Dallas for school and do a lot of highway driving. I’m thinking that smaller tires might be better since this is my daily.
And yes they are stock shocks! They’re actually surprisingly pretty good but I will be upgrading them soon.

31" tires are a good idea along with loosing that body lift. If the you like the ride forget about the shocks, they are fine.

That’s probably what I’ll do. I think I leave them for a while but I plan on getting a lift at some point down the line and I’ll get new ones then. Thanks for the input!

When I took mine off the body didn't come down even on the bolt holes so had to use a ratchet strap to pull it over to line it up. Also depending on how big the spare tire is it may hit on the bumper when you put it back down. You'll also need a short piece of metal tubing to join the fuel filler hose back together or cut the one that's in there. I found some instructions for one of the lifts and just did it in reverse

Those BFGs look like they have a lot of tread.
If you’re pulling those 33’s let me know if you’re getting rid of them.

Most likely will be so I’ll definitely let you know! They’re pretty old but still have a lot of tread left. I think the Jeep had been sitting in the previous owners garage for a while.

Just threw on some 31"s so if you're still interested in the 33"s let me know!
(P.S. sorry I had to reach out to you on here. Still new to the forum and couldn't figure out how to do a private message.)
