Affordable forged alloy wheels for 35s - an experiment

Exactly, you think there are more choices till you go actually try to find one. Trail Ready is in Oregon, btw. I have only heard good things so called to discuss .. and I was speechless when they told me the cost. Like everything, prices have gone up. I remember they would do a wheel for ~800 each back in the pre-pandemic days, now it is nearly twice that.

I will make sure to post the outcome on this thread. I just wanted to put the information/option out there if folks wants to do some exploration.

Did Trailready mention why they don’t offer their standard forged wheel in 4” backspace while they do on their flowformed?

More than likely that wasn't the only parameter unable to be met. Do they even make a 7.5" width in 17" wheels?

They don’t show that they do, I’d assume 8.5 is all you get with their standard offerings of each type.

I figured I’d ask Psri though since their forged wheels start at 4.5” when their flowformed wheels start at 3.5” on the drop downs. Seems odd they’d be different but I’m sure they have a reason.

They were willing to customize both width and backspacing for added fees. They offered make 17x7 and 4" bs and the cost was 1076 per wheel (and that did not include shipping or taxes). I'll go check if that cost was for forged or flow formed, don't remember.

FWIW, Forgeline wanted 1695 per wheel - this was for their OE1 series.

At least that’s about what their forged wheels are priced at. Too rich for my blood either way.

Good work!!! I used to get brand new custom forged wheels from LA for 200-250 per wheel!!! A little company called centerline, ha!

Can you imaging a forged MOAB wheel and a forged “tomb Raider” (or Alcoa) wheel!

Play your cards right and you might have started a new business. 2k for a set of wheel is steep, considering I can get nice cast for 5-600 bucks. But forged make a beautiful wheel, especially polished

How long ago was $250 for a forged wheel, and from LA? Alcoa Tomb raider wheels were already forged, but you aren't the only one thinking about a forged Moab wheel :) @zebra12 asked the same question to me a month ago.

Those are sick! With all the aluminum armor on jeeps everyone will be going back to polished rims soon.

I got these painted but I thought hard about getting them in a machined finish with a clear coat.

Good eye. Yup. I am going with 5x5.5" bolt pattern to be able to fit the Yukon big hub. Explained that in the first post.

Somehow I missed that....twice! I read through the thread then, when I saw the stamp, I got worried for you and even went back to reread it, wondering if I had just missed that part. Apparently I did, both times! lol

You can not find cast wheels with the dimensions I specified in the first post at any cost. And if you go price custom dimension forged wheels from places like Forgeline (or any other US company, irrespective of where the wheel is actually made), I guarantee you will be very surprised. Just ask @Chris 🙂
