Got a 2000 jeep TJ 2 years ago and have already installed a new head , was driving home yesterday and all the sudden load pop,bang something from the engine cruised to the side got out and looked all my oil was pouring out on the ground and the metal gasket with teeth was hanging out the bottom of the motor the thing in the pic, now I know I have seen this metal thing before when I did my new head work. Any idea what I am dealing with,cause the noise it made sounded like it's going to be bad. And no I have not even looked yet it's to depressing

The only thing I can think of in the engine that looks like that is a piston ring

This is terrible advice, and it will never hold under normal engine temp/pressure. I'm so sick of us spouting off, giving half backed advice to people with TJ trouble, only to have them invest their time and money in a solution that was never going to work for them.




What OP needs is Flex Seal.

Wait, JB weld isn’t “actually” the same as welding? It won’t seal a metal hole like this?
 
I'D start by doing a compression check, but I'm thinking it's probably your Cadillac converter. I didn't think you could kill a 4.0 without running it with no oil, but you obviously had oil !!!

This is why I check my oil once a week. I don't care if the oil level never moves in any of my cars when I check it, I'm still checking it weekly. It's so important on old engines that are prone to burning/leaking oil that you check them. They're only as reliable as they are kept up on by the owner. Sorry this happened.

You can probably find a block on FB marketplace or a junkyard and do a compression test on it. Swap the head. Do a gasket rebuild while it's out, maybe some rod bearings. This block is prob toast. The cylinder walls, if they don't now have an extra intake opening, will be scored bad.
