My wife's late grandfather had this piece of a German fighter. I remember him telling a story about being pinned on a beach in Italy for three days while the Germans strafed the beach. As a fighter took a low pass he shot at it with his rifle and it crash shortly after. Not sure if this is from that same plane, too late to ask him now.

For the little kid in me that refuses to grow up the most impressive museum I've ever been in is the "new" Smithsonian Air & Space hangar at Dulles International outside of D.C. The collection they have housed there is impressive. I wish I had attempted to get a panorama shot to try and catch the size and scale of the building. This first picture only captures ~1/4 to 1/3 of the entire space.

Visited the Air and Space Museum last time I was in the DC area. Had to snap a pic of this P38 Lightning. My wife's stepfather was a P38 pilot in WWII. He was one of the pilots that had to ditch on the Greenland icecap. A book was written about the recovery of one of the P38s, she has been fully restored and has been flying airshows for quite a few years now. Google The Lost Squadron for the book, and Glacier Girl for the bird. There are many youtube videos showing her flying.
