My LJ spits gas back at me when I fill it up almost every single time. I always surround the filler hole with paper towels so it catches the spit back.

I read it has to do with a valve inside the rubber tube from the filler hole to the tank. My boss has an 05 LJ Rubi and fixed his by replacing the hose with a Ford part, I believe. From what I understand you can either replace the tank and Jeep will pay half the price or you can just cut up that ford part so it fits just right.

Anyone have any experience with this?

That's never happened to me on either Jeep did I just get lucky?

It hasn't happened to me either at 76k miles.

It's likely to happen to both of us at some point, though it might not be for another 100k (no telling). The ethanol in the fuel is what causes it. Ethanol causes the plastic to expand over time.

I have part to fix it, I just haven't had the time to install it.

The real fix is to buy one of those aftermarket fuel tanks that add like 12 more gallons capacity. I forgot the name of the company but some of their tanks bolt on.
