Hey guys, I just went to the local Sam's club and was checking out the tires. I saw some of these Good Year Wrangler Trailrunner AT's and thought they might be a potential purchase.
Has anyone here had any experience with these particular tires? Specifically in the stock 245/75/16 or possibly 265/75/16 sizes?

@TJ4Jim , are they fairly quiet on the road? All of the reviews I have read seem to be all over the place on that subject. Half say they are really quiet, and half say that are obnoxiously loud.

Well I only have a few hundred miles on them and so far they are very quiet. The noise level is also one of my concerns and the Walmart reviews were very positive regarding noise. I suspect this particular tire is a private label for Walmart and Sam's club as I do not see them available elsewhere.

I've got Goodyear Wrangler authority's (I think they are M/T) on my Tacoma, they used to be on my 4runner. They hum a little at 40+mph. I love them though, great traction, even in rain&snow.
I'll find a picture

When I got these Walmart was discontinuing them and got them right at $100 a tire. & They still gave me road hazard warranty too!

@Yellow_Machine , yea, the price is what got me at the Sam's club. They had the 245/70/16's priced at $111.00 each. The 265/75/16 BFG ko2's were priced at $189.00 each.
I know it's not comparing apples to apples, the BFG's are a bigger tire, but that's a really big price difference.
I put the 245/70/16's next to an identical set of Trailrunner AT's in the 265/75/16 size. (That's the second picture) I didn't think the 245's looked that much smaller.

Hey man, if you can save a dollar do do do it. That's more money to be had elsewhere.
On my tj I'm running falcon wild peaks, 33x12.5. I think my sister-in-law paid like $900for a set of 5. I don't guess that's to bad. I'm not sure what tires I'll go with when it's time to replace. They have about 1/2 the tread left on them.

Here's a better shot of my Wrangler authorities. Pretty luggy tread.

I have those tires on my wife’s 4Runner (265/70-17) and have about 10k miles on them. They run quiet to her and I and that is with multiple 400 mile highway trips on them. They replaced Michelin all season tires and these are just as quiet and look a whole lot better in my opinion

Load Range SL . . . . wtf is that ?

Apparently it stands for standard load, I think that means it's just acceptable. Lol
Here's the exact description I found.

Passenger Tires

Since most P-metric passenger tires are manufactured in the standard load range, they will have nothing branded on their sidewalls or may be branded standard load and identified by an SL in their descriptions, as in P235/75R-15 SL.

I’ve been looking at tires recently - Consumer reports rated these #3 out of 17 tires that they tested.

Anybody running these? Pics?

235-75-15 are very cheap and what I would likely purchase.

One last try- I have to make a decision by tomorrow. After sale and rebate it would only be $233 for a set of four Trailrunners or $193 if I sign up for a credit card at Discount Tire Direct.

So cheap it is hard not to get these.

My other option is to keep my current Goodyear Wrangler Radials that I like the look better and with white letters (unlike the Trailrunners.) I have two out of round Wrangler Radial tires and Goodyear is letting me buy two replacements for $13 each under warranty.

Having to deal with actual Discount Tire store for the warranty is a pain. Seems like all they care about selling/upselling/BS rainbows and sunshine than actually mounting and balancing tires properly. Drives me crazy! If I order the Trailrunners then I can do it myself and avoid Discount Tire.

Did you ever decide to run these. I swapped wheels and have been running a set at that size now for a bit. I haven't tried them in snow but I was impressed with them for on road daily driving. Smoother ride, quiet, good in rain. I wanted to go to 30x9.5x15 eventually but I like them enough to stick potentially. They also look to be the closest to 29" of the other 235/75/15 AT's available.

No, I didnt. Wish I would have - that was a good deal. I’m still running the old Wrangler Radials because they have too good of tread depth left and I know I couldn’t get anything $$$ for them used even with only 4,000 miles.

Any pics? What size rims did you have them mounted on?

I’ll probably get a set sometime down the road...

Don't have a picture handy at the moment but I have them on a set of Gamblers that I switched to. They came with them. I previously had some new Michelin LTX road tires that come with the Jeep and I was just running them down until it was time to switch out. I'll try to get you a quick shot .

I've pretty much narrowed it down to the TrailRunners or General Grabbers. I really wanted to go up a tiny bit to 30's but yeah these are just super smooth, look good, and the cost savings are pretty hard to ignore. I found a set of 4, new, on ebay for like $305 shipped. Wal Mart has them for like $80/tire.

I don’t think it would be worth going up to 30’s. Your choice, obviously, but the 30-950 are only about 1/2” taller and width is about the same. I suspect 235 may actually be a touch wider but too cold and snowy outside to go measure.

I run the kevlar sided wrangler tires that are off road style on my F150. Can't remember the name. They are nice tires. I have 30k on them now and the last rotation, I waited too long. I know have some road hum.

That said, I will not buy Goodyear tires for a while. Actually until they support and fund my side of politics or simply stay out of politics. This last election, Goodyear as a company and it's officers were loud with there social and financial support of socialism. JMHO.

So yeah, the Michelins were 235's as well. The TrailRunners are about 1" less in diameter than the General Grabbers which are supposed to be true 30" tires.

But yeah, to your point, it doesn't really matter. I don't do shit except haul my dogs and other random small project stuff in it, I'm just rocking new Moog stock springs, so no lift or plans for it.. I might as well save the money at this point, especially if the experience is good already.
