When my Rubicon locker went out recently, I just didn't have the LSD function and it wouldn't lock. There was no damage to my gears, but lots of shiny metal in the gear oil. I replaced it with the Detroit per Jerry's recommendation, and very happy that I did! As stated above, go the Detroit route [if] it breaks. Or sell your working Rubicon locker and buy a Detroit if you're worried about it breaking. A spool is a miserable thing to have on the street though!
