I got P0456 last night. Amazed I never got it sooner. The charcoal canister on my 2002 is under the hood. It is connected to the fuel tank by a long hard line along the frame rail that is rusted out pretty bad. Confirmed it has leaks with a smoke tester.

So I need to replace this hard line and I can't find any part numbers or specific replacement. Surely I'm not the only one to have this happen. Do you use generic brake line? Copper tubing? Something else?

Edit: I see some fuel line replacement kits that didn't exist last time I looked. Example: Ebay SS Kit

It says 97-06...that can't be right! Anyone ever try these kits?

I used 2 pieces of generic brake line with 1 coupling, easy to bend by hand and install.

Do you remember what size brake lines and I'm assuming the cut ends have to be modified somehow to attach the rubber hoses?

I used 3/16 with no mods to the end. I have a pex tool with the SS clamps that clamped the hose but a constant tension hose clamp would work fine.

Came out easy enough. Think I'll get the ebay linked set. Seems to match up and I can get it from the manufacturer at SStubes.com for $59 shipped. Not much to be saved by making my own other than shipping time.

Should have known better. Rarely do aftermarket parts work well...

The diameter is too big and doesn't fit in the mounting brackets. The hose doesn't fit on the ends. To top it all off, the line is almost 4" too short.

get some of that newer stuff (no, even if I’m over 60 it’s not all new) copper/steel/alloy that’s not rustable and easily manipulated, formed’n bent
and run it ur self. Flair tools (cept hydrolic) R cheep. Put the correct fitting on each end’n flair w/right (double bubble, single, etc) press. Just buy enuff for ur job rather than a whole roll (25 ft). No flair tool? excuse to get 1. I all ways look for that excuse 8^ )

Update:

I guess they sell two different versions. I didn't even realize there were two. They both say fits 97-06 Wrangler but that is not accurate and customer service on the phone isn't any smarter.

They offered a refund if I send it back on my own dime but return shipping cost was $50+. So I have an extra set of fuel and evap hardlines that I think fit 03+ if anyone local sees this and wants a good deal.

I must be dumb because I took a chance again and ordered the other set of lines with low expectations that I would end up out more money and have two useless sets of lines. To my amazement, the new evap line fit really well. Very happy with it.

Side note: the evap line is discontinued through the dealership.

It took a long time to get this sorted but turned out better in the end than trying to bend lines myself - it would have been difficult to get it right. This would have been very easy if I had ordered the correct lines from the beginning.

Did the correct part from SSTubes address your concerns with it being a larger diameter? Or how did you address that issue?

I just replaced my evap cannister and solenoid on my 97. Bookmarking this thread for future reference.

Ya, the diameter was smaller 3/16" vs 5/16" (which is odd because their measurements were OD for tubing) and I think the line was longer and slightly different bends possibly.
