Was quoted $543 to replace. Part looks to be around $125 - $150.

Any have instructions on removing and reinstalling? My mechanic skills are maybe about a 4 out of 10.

Here you go, I just happened to have copied the two pages you need a couple days ago.

I'd plan on half the day. I've installed a couple shifter cables and they weren't hard but it's not quick job either.

Thanks. So is $543 a fair price at the dealership? I’m trying to reconcile what looks like a $130 part. But if install time is that long, maybe it’s not as out there as I initially thought.

If that $543 includes the cable I'd say that's a very fair price for anyone who doesn't actually want to do the job. There's a fair amount of work involved.

If the part is $125 then the balance of the cost comes out to about 3-4 hrs labor, which is probably about right.

I'll also add that owning a TJ is a lifelong process of fixing stuff, which will absolutely get expensive over time. Nobody here knew how to do any thing until they started doing things, and this seems like a great place to get your feet wet. Lots of people start with brakes, but if you screw up brakes (not that you would) it could be catastrophic. The shifter cable has a much lower risk attached to the repair. I would encourage you to do it yourself, although I understand why you probably won't.
