Doing some more "getting to know my new to me 2005 TJ. The automatic shift lever moves between Park and First and everything in between without pressing the button. No detents work. Selects gears fine, just need to count clicks and watch the red indicator to know where you are. I took apart the console and the brake interlock is disconnected. The reason is the plastic connector that connects it to the shift lever is gone. I assume another crappy plastic part that fell apart. The upside is it doesn't have the ball stick in the shift lever either, but it doesn't matter with the brake interlock is gone (another assumption here that is the case).

Is the "plastic" connector for the "brake interlock to the shift lever" available somewhere? Or maybe from someone 3-D printing it? Or would I have to buy the entire transmission shifter mechanism to fix it. Is it even available new? I notice a bunch of them used online, so maybe this is a common problem?

Any insights on this is appreciated.

See picture.

Here is what you are missing. It also looks like you are missing the steel pin located above the plastic pin on the shift lever.

The loose steel cable is for the ignition interlock. I don't know how or if the plastic piece is removable from the shifter assembly. But I would wonder if the early Jeep Libertys with the 42rle have the same piece and maybe the same shifter.

Thanks for the good picture. I figured it was a part like this. And the Jeep Liberty idea. I found that little spring laying in there.
