I have a jeep tj, 05, 4.0 auto that has a bad high pitched noise from the front that I can’t seem to figure out. It seems to be coming from the front centre, and starts at about 100KM/H (60mph) then won’t stop. Keep it mind it will only make this noise when the vehicle is in motion. Pulled front drive shaft, no change. Replaced front wheel bearings, front diff bearings, front u joints, both axles are good and have been recently replaced. Pulled rear drive shaft, no change. Makes the same noise 2 or 4wd. Engine RPM or transmission gear has no affect on the noise. If you shut the vehicle down while in motion, noise remains the same. I’ll try and post a video of it as well. Completely lost on this one.

Do you have any aftermarket accessories mounted on the jeep? A lot of lights, racks, mirrors, and other objects are known to cause impressively loud whistling in the oncoming air.

One test you could do is take all four wheels off, put the car on good jackstands, and run the rear axle up to speed in 2WD. See if the noise occurs, and if not, shift to 4WD (at a stop) and repeat. Be very careful if you do this, you wouldn’t want to drop it off a jackstand with the rotors spinning at a high rate of speed.

Definitely post a video. Sounds can be very difficult to describe, but can tell a lot.

Nothing changed on the jeep accessory wise, and everything is good and tight. It won’t make the noise on the hoist wheels on or off, which makes me think it’s load related. I’m a red seal technician(that’s essentially a master tech in Canada) and seen lots of strange problems, but this one is sending me through some loops. Would like to get some ideas prior to digging into the transmission or tcase

Do you have a soft top? One time my soft top header was warped and air slipped in causing a high pitched whistling when I would go about that speed.

Found the problem. As insane as it sounds, the light bar was flipping upward when driving, making the insane sounds, and flipping back downward into position when you would stop. One of the craziest, simple things I’ve seen in many years as a tech. Thanks for all the help guys 🤙
