Ran into a wall on my hard tonneau cover build. Can’t find anyone that will work on a custom job so I’ll build my own. I’ve ordered some aluminum angle and a pair of s/s 16 inch egress 4 bar hinges to start with. I’ll use a sheet of 3/16 or 1/4 in aluminum diamond plate for the cover. This is kinda what I hope to wind up with. View attachment 100120
Cute!!!

I’ve been updating in the other threads but my tonneau is done except for gas struts and paint. Shelf’s done and it works as I carried my cas rifle and sg on it yesterday. Got my windshield washer operating. Installed an Oriole spare tire cover as my wife loved them having met the 1966 team in her youth.

Picked up Ripley from my mechanic yesterday. She now has 4 new O2 sensors, a new idler pulley, an oil change and a compete set of rubbers between the body and frame. My guy said they had to heat things to get the old o2’s out and retap the threads to get the new ones in. My ck engine light should stay off now.

Using tonneau gas struts is not going to work as the pickup cover installer doesn’t have the smarts to get the right struts and anything I bought would be a guess. So I’m going to experiment with some used inexpensive gmc truck hood hinges.

Got one of my Tj to Cj style hood latches done except for paint. Maybe one more screw and tweaking on the top part. Thinking that the aluminum bases will be painted to match the body color. Don’t want to drill any more holes into the body or hood than I have to.

Thought I’d update my build thread. Here’s my tonneau springs installed. I’ve turned the coils towards the hinges. They are super strong, almost too strong, it takes very little effort to open now. Going to do my Cj cowl vent today. I’ve got some new door exterior latches to install too. The ones on Ripley are rusty and look bad.

Hey Ed, have you/do you plan to ever go out to the Jeep Beach at Carolina Beach every May? I've been twice now, it's a pretty cool event, and totally takes over Carolina Beach.

Sounds like fun, looks like it’s maybe the third weekend. If it stays then I might be able to go next year. The fourth Saturday every month is my cas club shoot. I’ll mark my calendar.
