Ban on natural gas water heaters

Tankless gas water heaters save a lot of gas over tank models yet they want to ban those too? Heating water for a whole house with tankless electric water heaters usually requires a service upgrade as they can use up to 160 amps. Add in the household loads and an EV and you're looking at a 400 amp service which costs not double what a 200 costs, more like 3 to 5 times what a 200 costs. Materials alone for a 400 amp service can cost more than an entire 200 amp service with labor included.

Storing 50 gallons at 125 doesn't make sense with the alternatives available.

Agreed, I was happy to get rid of the old tank water heater.

Our tankless propane is especially helpful with the kids who tend to take long showers from time-to-time.

What about hot water heat? My tankless gas Rinnai not only heats our domestic water but the furnace uses it to heat our house as well.

I'm sure if they had their way they'd ban that too.

These people are complete crackpots and the folks who voted for them aren't any different.

We have the original tank gas heater from when we built the house 23 years ago. I insulated it 4 inch water heater blanket when we moved in so it holds heat.

I probably just jinxed it.

This IEEE article from a grid engineer discloses some of the challenges of going all electric. I found it technically informative compared to the popular narrative.

However , they should let the free market support what people want for their homes.

Agreed. Unfortunately they want to control every aspect of your life and mine. As @Zorba calls it, the cradle to the grave nanny state (which is an accurate description).

They're the most talentless and unimpressive individuals out there and without big government they wouldn't make it in the real world. Only in American politics can you fail upwards.

Thanks, that is a great web site. Been looking over their articles. Most people are clueless about massive upgrades this country's electrical grid will need for the proposed EV and electric appliance goals. One article also said in order to meet the proposals we will also need about 300 more lithium mines opened up, not to mention all the other precious metals that go into EVs..

It is impossible to get the output to carry all the electric everything without power plants. Solar is not the answer and nobody will even consider nuclear. We are going to end up with electric everything and no way to charge it.
