Basket's Build

Yes most times it's a ground issue. Like working on a Corvette or other fiberglass body rig. You can't just ground to the body or frame. So for some reason there always seems to be more ground problems with these types of rigs.

Oh shit that makes sense that's a good point. Like the jeep taillights just ground through the mounting screws through the tub. Not that easy in this thing... the wire goes all the way to the driver side front of the camper where it plugs in. Awesome!! Thank you hopefully that is all it is

Ground has continuity, and I can also pinpoint the brake light/ turn signal wire.

Out of the other two wires, one has no continuity to any pins and the other has continuity with almost all of them, and also with the camper chassis. Must be shorted out somewhere. How exciting.

I missed a few pages of goodness.

Tl;dr campers are cheaply constructed and I'm clumsy so I need to fix a bunch of shit

I'm thinking/hoping it's messed up at the back of the plug. The short has to be nearby anyways

My parents rented an RV for a trip back to Virginia in the 80's. Darn thang nearly fell apart on the way out there. I have hauled countless flatbed loads to mobile home plants. I know how the sausage is made.

What a pain in the ass. I'm going to have to cut out the sink to get to the wiring. I wanted to use it this weekend, I might just pick up some magnetic trailer lights for 20$ and slap them on there til I feel like dealing with this

Short of going into great detail, I had to do some creative wiring to get the stop/turn signals working on the trailer plug in on the 2010 Ram we use on the mail route. The turn signal wiring on the truck has a gremlin on the left side. It's a problem some where between the TIPM and the tail light. That issue keeps the trailer wiring from powering the left side brake/turn on the trailer plugin. I ran a constant power wire to a relay and used the left brake/turn wire as a signal to the relay.

Crafty... hopefully I don't have to do something like that lol. Doesn't sound any wonkier than the rest of what I'm seeing so far, I guess

Before you start ripping everything apart your other option would be to just pull some new wires.
Run new taillight and stop/turn and ground.
Also you'll want to make the battery charging wire larger than what is there now.
It's one of the reasons people who boondock have a D/C to D/C charger and are running 6 gauge wires instead of the 12 or 14 gauge wires that are there now.

I will need to remove the sink to get new wires attached to the plug anyways... I was suspecting they came off the back of the plug somehow, that is what happened to the plug in the bed of the truck. Either way, I need to be able to get to the back of the plug. It doesn't want to pull out to the outside far enough to do anything. I just can't reach in there, there is like a 10"x4" cabinet door and I can see in there but can't do any work.

Thanks for the tip on the charging cable. I'll do that while I'm at it...

Winterized the Jeep, tired of the back of my head freezing at night. Putting the hardtop on alone was... an experience. I almost ruined it LOL.

what a freaking cube with the hardtop on.

Ordered new jacks for the camper too so can't wait to go through the ordeal of removing it from the truck. I need to get busy with the shovel and make a flat space this time...

Also, jeep needs oil and the truck hasn't had any fluids changed in 4yrs. So I'm doing diffs, oil, brake flush, ATF/filter. A bit heavy at the Oreillys...
